Precollege is College
Spend a term as an NYU student in the fall, spring, or summer. You can earn college credits, connect with NYU faculty and classmates, and discover passions that can shape your life.
As a Precollege student, you will be an NYU student with access to the resources, community, and global network that make NYU unique. If you already know what you want to major in, or if you want to try out a subject you've never studied before, NYU Precollege is the best way to develop your skills and prepare for college.

Attendance Eligibility
Eligible applicants must be rising 11th or 12th grade high school students in summer or current 11th or 12th grade students in the fall or spring semesters. Students must have strong academic records (minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale).
International students are welcome to apply to study online in the fall and spring or to join the program in person in summer.
Because students enroll in NYU's undergraduate courses and final grades include attendance and participation, it is required for students to be able to attend for the full duration of the program.
Choose Your Courses
As a NYU Precollege student, you will be able to choose from many online and in person undergraduate courses across all areas of academic study. Begin to master a foreign language, practice the art of journalism, explore engineering and design, or delve into business and finance.
- In the summer semester, Precollege students can earn up to 8 credits (2 classes). A non-credit College Writing Workshop course is also available to students during the summer.
- In the fall and spring semesters, we recommend that Precollege students enroll in no more than 2-4 credits (1 class).

Living on Campus
Campus housing is available to students participating in NYU Precollege in the summer only. Campus housing is not available to students studying in the fall or spring terms, and students must be at least 15 years old to live on campus.
Students who live on campus in the summer are housed together in a residential hall in NYU's Washington Square campus. Because space in campus housing is limited, summer students interested in living on campus are advised to submit their Precollege admission application no later than May 1 to meet the June 1 housing registration deadline.
Please visit our Living on Campus page for more information about campus housing and the sign-up process.
Events and Activities
Precollege students attending in the summer can connect with their classmates at a series of evening and weekend events and activities hosted by NYU during the program. Movie nights, museum visits, trips around the city are just a few of the ways you can unwind and engage with our NYU Precollege community and the city.

College 101
In addition to classes, Precollege students in the summer can participate in the College 101 workshop series, which offers online information sessions and training in skills and knowledge for college preparation and success such as understanding the admissions process, navigating financial aid, and writing stellar essays.
Non-Credit Writing Workshop Course
Precollege students in the summer have the option of taking a non-credit College Writing Workshop, a five-week course taught by NYU’s writing faculty. The workshop introduces students to college-level reading and writing techniques and helps them hone their research and writing skills. Past students have found the course to be an excellent supplement to their credit-bearing NYU courses, and the skills they develop enhance their high school and undergraduate studies.
Several sections are offered online and on campus. The course is graded pass/fail.
