Graduation and Diplomas
NYU confers degrees three times a year: in January (Fall Conferral), May (Spring Conferral), and September (Summer Conferral). Commencement ceremonies are held once a year in May. To be eligible to graduate, you must complete all the requirements for your specific degree.
Get Ready: Graduation Checklist
As you prepare to finish your degree, there are a few steps you need to complete to make sure the process goes smoothly.
Log onto NYU Albert (under the Academics Tab) to:
Confirm your Expected Graduation Term
An accurate expected graduation term in Albert is crucial for making sure you don’t miss out on important financial aid, academic planning, and graduation communications. Confirm your Expected Graduation Term.
Check your Degree Progress Report
Make sure you are on track to meet all academic requirements, and that your major, minor, and degree are up to date. Meet with your advisor to discuss any questions. You can check your Degree Progress Report in Albert at any time.
Apply to Graduate
Review your Diploma Options
After submitting your application, you will be prompted to check the name on your diploma and delivery details. Approximately 8 weeks after graduation, your diploma will be mailed to your permanent address listed in NYU Albert. Review your Diploma Options.
Check your Graduation Status
In NYU Albert, you can check your graduation status by clicking the “View My Graduation Status” under Academics. After all your degree requirements are complete, we will notify you by email when your degree is awarded. If your degree requirements are not successfully completed at the end of the term, you will be notified by email and should meet with your advisor to discuss your path to graduation. Prepare for Commencement
September 2023, January 2024, and May 2024 graduates are invited to attend Commencement in May 2024. Once you know you are eligible to graduate, it's time to prepare for Commencement.
Check your School-based Ceremonies Schedule
Each individual school will hold its own ceremony or event in honor of its graduates. Please reach out to your school directly for questions on school-specific ceremonies and events. Check your school-based ceremonies schedule.
NOTE: If you are an international student, check the Office of Global Services’ website for more important information on preparing for life after graduation.
Paper and Electronic Diplomas
Approximately 8 weeks after you graduate we will mail your diploma to the permanent address listed in your NYU Albert account. To choose a different address, please log in and update your delivery address.
We can also help you to request an electronic diploma or order a replacement diploma.
Your academic achievement during your time at New York University may qualify you to be recognized with an honors designation when you graduate.
Each school has its own criteria to determine whether a student graduates with honors. Be sure to check the requirements associated with your degree.
