Core Access & Identity Services

Your NYU NetID and password, used along with NYU Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Duo, is how you access the majority of NYU's online services, including your email, Google apps, NYU Wi-Fi, and more. Getting them set up for the first time is simple, and so is maintaining them throughout your time at NYU.

The NYU Password associated with your NYU NetID is, along with NYU Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Duo, the key to online services such as NYU Home, NYU Email, Zoom, Wi-Fi, and more.

The NYU Start Page is a service portal that lets you manage many aspects of your NYU identity and access. It's where you'll start when you need to activate your new NYU NetID, and it's where you'll go to manage a number of identity-related tasks

NYU Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a critical cybersecurity tool powered by Duo that confirms your identity and helps prevent hackers from gaining access to your personal information and NYU’s network. It works by periodically requiring you to use a device (such as a phone) to verify an attempt to log into your NYU account. MFA is required to access online NYU services.

NYU Login (Single Sign-On) enables all NYU community members to use a single NetID@nyu.edu username and password—in combination with NYU MFA (Duo)—to securely access NYU online services like NYUHome, NYU Email, NYU Drive, NYU Zoom, and many others.

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is an app that protects you when you're connected to the internet from outside the NYU campus network, such as at home or via public Wi-Fi at a cafe or hotel. VPN "encrypts" your data, making sure it's safe from hackers who may be exploiting cybersecurity weaknesses in public Wi-Fi. A number of online NYU services require the use of VPN from off-campus, so it's a good idea to set it up before you need it.

Specialized Identity & Access Services

The Affiliate and Account Management (SailPoint) service enables IT onboarding for new members of the University community who require an ID card or access to NYU electronic resources.

Active Directory is used to manage networked computers and a variety of resources across NYU by providing authentication to and authorization for those services. All NYU faculty, staff, and students are in Active Directory. Accounts are enabled as needed.

Identity Data Services provides integration at the application- and data-level for:

  • Single Sign-On (SSO) or LDAP authentication for web applications
  • Account creation and management for applications and systems
  • Data integration via API and data feeds into identity databases and directories
  • Access to Registry Web administrative interface to identity data

Identity and access services are governed by a number of cybersecurity and data privacy policies and standards. Become familiar with any that may impact you, your applications, and your work.
