Living in Sydney
NYU Sydney faculty and staff are committed to creating an environment where active learning and exploration are the norm. Courses and projects rooted in the community, field-based research, and internship opportunities will give you entry to domains of local society and culture that casual visitors or academic tourists never see.
What to do when you first arrive
Take a Walk Around Your New Neighborhood
Once you have checked in and explored your new home please make sure to speak with the NYU Sydney staff. The team will help to orient you by pointing out local supermarkets, restaurants and public transport.
You can visit a local supermarket to stock up on supplies or if you are feeling adventurous you can take a walk around the neighbourhood. Darling Harbour and China Town are both just a short walk from your new home and these are great places to explore.
Buy the Basics
There’s a supermarket conveniently located on your block and so you can pick up bathroom and kitchen items when you arrive. Don’t forget you have a fully equipped kitchen and so you might want to get a head-start on your grocery purchases. For shopping recommendations speak to a member of the NYU Sydney team.
Be Sure to Check in With Your Parents
Your loved ones will be eager to hear about your journey and your initial impressions of your new home. Once you arrive we recommend you take the time to check in with family and concerned friends.
