About Our First Year Surveys
The Office of Student Success administers two surveys to first-year students:
- The NYU First Year Survey, administered in the summer and into the fall semester
- The NYU First Year Check-In Survey, administered in the spring semester
The NYU First Year Survey helps us gain insight into our incoming students’ habits and expectations of college before they start school. The NYU First Year Check-In Survey touches base with our first-year students about their experiences to help us assess their personal and academic development since entering NYU.
Both surveys are administered by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) at the University of California, Los Angeles, and are distributed nationally.
Am I required to take these surveys?
No, you are not required to take the NYU First Year Survey or the NYU First Year Check-In Survey, but we would really love to hear your thoughts!
Do I have to answer every single question?
No questions are required to answer. Please feel free to skip over any questions you do not wish to answer.
Are my answers confidential?
Your responses will be used for institutional research purposes only and will be strictly confidential.
Is the NYU First Year Survey different from the Admitted Students Questionnaire?
Yes. Though some of the questions can be similar, the NYU First-Year Survey is about your overall expectations for college.
