Check out the tips and guidance below for common situations concerning returning from a leave of absence.
Making Academic Plans with an Academic Advisor or School Administrator
All students returning from a leave of absence should contact their academic advisor or school contact to make an academic plan for the upcoming semester. In this meeting, discuss your course plans for the following semester and go over your academic progress toward the completion of your degree. This is typically done in March for students returning from a leave in the Fall semester or in November for students returning from a leave in the Spring semester.
Not sure who in your school to contact? Email your school’s designated contact for students on leave. You can always start with a Student Success Specialist and we will connect you with your academic advisor.
Do you need help reaching out to your advisor? Reach out to a Student Success Specialist and they will walk you through the process.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
If you receive any financial aid or scholarships (including NYU scholarships, non-NYU scholarships, loans or any other types of financial aid), make sure you chat with someone in the Financial Aid Office before returning from a leave. They will be able to help you get your aid set up so everything is ready to go when you return
You can contact Financial Aid via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or set up a Zoom appointment with a Financial Aid counselor. If you have questions about who to contact in Financial Aid, start with a Student Success Specialist and we will connect you with the right person.
