Recognizing "Thanksgiving" as a Day of Mourning

"Thanksgiving" is a reminder of the centuries-long genocide of millions of Native peoples, the assault on Native culture, and the theft of Native lands. That is why, for many Native peoples, this day is known as a “National Day of Mourning, ” a day to honor ancestors as well as protest the racism and oppression continued to be faced by Native peoples today. (Source: United American Indians of New England) Learn more.

While continuing to bring light to this history, it's also important to uplift, support, and take action in solidarity with Native people who are still fighting for their sovereignty, resisting oppressive systems, and challenging all of us every day to reimagine our ties to the land and each other. Learn more ways to uplift, support, and be in solidarity with and across Native and Indigenous Communities.
