SAFE Program (Substance, Assessment, Feedback, and Evaluation)
Counseling and Wellness Services offers free, non-judgmental, and confidential assistance to NYU students who have concerns related to their use of alcohol or other drugs through a range of services, including the The SAFE Program (Substance Assessment, Feedback and Evaluation). In addition, students can contact the Wellness Exchange at (212) 443-9999 or chat via the app anytime to be connected to a specialized substance abuse counselor to discuss any concerns or questions regarding alcohol or substance use.
The SAFE program helps students examine their own substance-related behaviors in a safe, judgment-free environment. The focus of the SAFE program is to help students reduce high-risk behaviors and harmful consequences related to their use of alcohol or other drugs, identify motivations and triggers related to their use, and build skills to help promote change. Services are provided by a multi-disciplinary clinical team within CWS, and are non-judgmental, non-labeling and confidential.
Students interested in the SAFE Program will first need to schedule a brief 15-minute phone screening with a counselor. The counselor will ask you a few questions to make sure you are being connected to the right resource. To schedule a phone screening, log in to the SHC Portal, click Appointments, and select Counseling Phone Triage — or call (212) 998-4780.
For additional information about the SAFE program please contact Genny Cuocci LCSW, CASAC at (212) 992-5678 or gc914@nyu.edu.
