Class of 2022
Ahmed Bharoocha is an undergraduate student at NYU Stern School of Business. He was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh when he was 14 months old. Ahmed resided in Miami his entire life, assimilating to the Hispanic and American cultures. As a first generation college student, he decided to attend Miami Dade College in the anticipation to transfer to a competitive institution that offered flexibility with classes and allowed him to continue to expand his homegrown business of reselling luxury apparel and sneakers while simultaneously focusing on his academia. Eager to follow his passion for business, he applied to the NYU College of Arts & Science to pursue Economics as a freshman to transfer there as a sophomore. Sadly, he was rejected.
During his sophomore year at MDC, he focused heavily on his extracurriculars where he held officer positions in Student Government Association, Phi Beta Lambda, and Phi Theta Kappa. He applied again to NYU, but this time, to the Stern School of Business because of its world-renowned finance program and their global network and programs. He received the Howard Meyers Scholarship, a full merit scholarship, to attend NYU Stern School of Business. Ahmed’s future career prospects include management consulting with MBB or investment banking with bulge-bracket banks. As a Breakthrough Leadership Scholar, he aims to foster his skills to best prepare him for his career and to connect with other scholars. Some of his interests are exercising, meditating, and trying different cuisines.
Andrea Chiurillo is currently a freshman attending the Stern Business School at New York University. She is originally from Venezuela but was raised in the suburbs of Miami, Florida. Growing up she was actively involved in her father’s restaurant business and has learned the magnitude of success that hard work, dedication and compassion can breed. Her passion for business continues to grow as she becomes involved with other aspects of the Business world. Andrea will concentrate in Business Finance at the Stern Business School. As a Breakthrough scholar Andrea is looking forward to meeting inspirational people as well as developing skills that will help her in her future career.
Ricky Cortez is an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. Born and raised in NYC, Ricky could find no better place to study Marketing than at NYU Stern, right in the heart of the business capital of the world. As a first-generation college student, Ricky understands and recognizes the importance of corporate social responsibility, specifically in the field of scholarships. As a Breakthrough Scholar, Ricky is eager to use his experiences and passion for marketing at NYU Stern to provide him a career where he can advocate for companies and small businesses alike to increase their social responsibility efforts and awareness. This, Ricky believes, provides value to both companies and communities necessary for the advancement of society.
Angela Dao is an undergraduate student at the NYU Stern School of Business. She transferred from Irvine Valley College and was raised and constantly inspired by a single immigrant mom to rise above adversity and challenge herself for a brighter future. Angela understands the importance of education, especially of those in lower income households, which is why she aims to develop her business knowledge in order to help others in the same way that they uplifted her. She is strongly passionate about Vietnamese and Japanese food, learning about different cultures, media and entertainment, music, fashion, jewelry, skincare, and meeting new people. Angela is looking forward to applying herself in exciting business ventures and sharing her experiences with others that also aim to forge their own path in business.
Danilo Escobedo is an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. He was born and raised in Queens, NY, and attended The Bronx High School of Science. In high school, Danilo was one of the captains of the track and field team and was a teacher’s assistant for a class for 8-11 year-olds at his church. He would also translate the sermons from Spanish to English. Danilo considers himself a movie buff and enjoys cooking, listening to music, and spending time with friends.
He chose to come to NYU because of the university’s close relationship with the city and its vast study abroad opportunities. He is also excited to finally experience what it’s like to live in lower Manhattan, after living in Queens and Brooklyn. As a Breakthrough Leadership Scholar, Danilo is looking forward to exploring his options at Stern, developing skills for a successful career in business, and meeting people who are passionate about helping others.
Michael-Scott Greco is currently an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. Hailing from Staten Island, NY, he graduated from Xaverian High School, where he was Captain of the Debate Team and President of Model United Nations. These leadership opportunities helped to spark Michael-Scott’s interests in management and finance. Outside of the classroom, he enjoys researching policy, cooking, and volunteering.
He chose Stern because of the extensive opportunities offered both in New York City and abroad. Michael-Scott looks forward to participating in Model U.N. and taking electives across schools. He is incredibly grateful for this scholarship and the doors it will open for him at NYU.
is an undergraduate student currently attending the NYU Stern School of Business. After living in West Orange New Jersey for seven years, she moved to Houston Texas where she later attended Klein Oak High school and gained her International Baccalaureate Diploma. In her spare time, Geneva enjoys taking long walks, listening to music, playing video games, eating delicious new foods, exercising to reciprocate, and using the Oxford Comma when appropriate. She also deeply invests herself in anything to do with films, television, and animation. She chose Stern Business School for the unmatched quantity and quality of opportunities which will help her carve a unique path towards a future of boundless possibilities at NYU and beyond. Through Stern, Geneva hopes to become a better person and speaker by taking advantage of all that NYU has to offer, socially and professionally.
Victoria Obasa will be attending NYU Stern School of Business. She was an active and involved student at Bay Shore High School and hopes to continue to be one at Stern. She is a proud Nigerian who loves to run, cook and help others. She looks forward to the many opportunities she will have at Stern, the new things she will learn about the business world and being in a new and diverse community. As a Breakthrough Scholar, Victoria will use her resources at Stern to become a best leader she can be in a new and exciting environment.
Avante Price is an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. He attended Evanston Township High School. Born in Chicago, raised in Seattle, Oregon, Japan, and then Chicago again, Avante’s been exposed to many walks of life and has achieved a fantastic understanding of what it takes to be great. Up at 5am and asleep at 2am the next day, Avante’s always up working hard at whatever tangent he’s immersed himself in for the time
being. As a Breakthrough Scholar, Avante is looking forward to developing his skills to become a leader in the world of entrepreneurship.
Elias Rosas is an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. He attended Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. Born in the Bronx, NY, Elias faced many negative influences in the community. He has used this experience to develop skills to persevere through negative times and it has helped reach to where he is today. As a Breakthrough Scholar, Elias is looking forward to learning what a leader is and how, as a leader, I can help my community by guiding them towards the right direction.
Kenneth Sanders II
Kenneth Sanders II is an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. He transferred from two CT community colleges where he earned 2 Certificates and 4 Associate's degrees in just over 2 years. This was no small feat seeing how this was after a 10-year hiatus after graduating high school. Within those 10 years he navigated difficult situations, found direction, and developed an ironclad will. That strong will was exhibited in his victory of Six Flags New England’s 2019 30-Hour Coffin Challenge.
His perseverance garnered valuable life experiences and he discovered his passion for all things Business. He wants to inspire others and help them realize their potential in achieving their dreams. His hobbies include weightlifting, gardening, e-commerce, and small engine repair specializing in vintage mopeds. Kenneth looks forward to campus life, where he is looking to positively impact as many people as possible, while having fun and developing his skillset to be better equipped for whatever the future holds.
Sebastian Suarez is an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. He attended Lincoln Park Academy High School. A native Floridian, Sebastian had the opportunity to serve as the Statewide Chair of Students Working Against Tobacco, where he learned how to facilitate and mobilize individuals across the state to cooperate together and impact their community. Sebastian is excited to be able to continue his leadership roles as a Breakthrough Scholar, where he is determined to work alongside others to foster positive change at NYU, the surrounding community, and the business environment.
Alexander Witczak is an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. Born and raised in Queens, New York, he attended Hunter College High School in Manhattan. The son of Polish immigrants, Alexander views his experiences as a first-generation U.S. university student as the source of his fascination with the intermingling of cultures and beliefs as a means for both personal growth and social progress. As a Breakthrough Scholar, Alexander is looking forward to developing his leadership qualities to help foster constructive discussion of the value of understanding and interacting with cultural spheres outside one’s own for the purpose of enriching cooperative efforts.
Emily Zhu is an undergraduate student enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Business. Born and raised in New York City, she attended the Bronx High School of Science. While at Bronx Science, she was engaged in activities such as Key Club, the FeMaidens Robotics Team, National Honors Society, and Math Team. Outside of school, Emily enjoys hanging out with friends, traveling, shopping, and watching Korean dramas. At Stern, she is looking forward to meeting new people from different cultures and backgrounds and developing lasting relationships with her peers. Emily is excited to take full advantage of the various opportunities NYU and New York City has to offer. Specifically, she is eager to pursue a global experience through partaking in NYU’s study abroad programs.
