Out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19, homestays will not be offered at NYU Paris during fall semester 2020.
Students who want to maximize their time in Paris and have a unique cultural experience should rank as their first choice their interest in living in a homestay. It's important to note that a homestay may not connect you with what you might think of as a family (for example, the term 'host family' does not necessarily mean a married couple with children). In Paris it's common for the homestay host to fall into one of the following categories: retired couple renting out their adult child's vacant room, single retirees, or young artists.
Students who live in homestays will live in neighborhoods in all twenty arrondissements of Paris and its immediate suburbs. Average commute time from student housing to the NYU Paris academic center and Parisian universities ranges from 30 to 50 minutes.
Homestays for NYU Paris are provided by a third party housing provider.
Important - Students must pay a security deposit and full semester rent directly to the third party provider via a bank transfer in Euros prior move in. Housing charges do not appear on the NYU E-bill system.
Choosing a single in a homestay means that you will have a private bedroom within the home. Other NYU Paris students might be living in the same household in a different bedroom.
Your host will provide you with your own furnished single bedroom (including pillows and blankets). You will share common areas like the kitchen and bathroom.
Choosing a double homestay means that you will share your bedroom with another NYU Paris student.
Your host family will provide a furnished bedroom (including pillows and blankets) for two people. You will share common areas like the kitchen and bathroom.
In either the single or double homestay your host will provide you basic daily breakfast items (ex. bread, butter, cereal, coffee, tea) and one evening meal per week. The cost of these meals is included in your rent. Some homestays may provide more evening meals at an additional cost. Otherwise you will be responsible for arranging your own meals. You will have access to space in a refrigerator to store your food, and to the kitchen for cooking.
