NYU Alerts

NYU has the capacity to send blast messages via text, email, or voice message to your mobile device in order to provide you with direct and timely emergency information in case of an emergency. These messages will be important to safeguard your personal safety. Please be sure that your "abroad" number is updated in Albert in order to receive these alerts.

New York University's Department of Campus Safety creates a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to pursue their educational and professional goals across the University.

To protect its community, New York University has uniformed security officers on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year; an emergency number (212) 998-2222; emergency call boxes located throughout the main campus, green light buildings staffed 24 hours a day by Campus Safety Officers, Safe Havens, and transportation services.

Before you depart for the semester you will be instructed on how to use NYU Traveler so that NYU staff can assist you if needed.

Safe Ride

New York University has partnered with Via to provide free, on-demand Safe Ride service as a no-cost alternative means of transportation between NYU facilities in Manhattan during the overnight hours. For overnight service to Brooklyn locations, please utlize our Brooklyn Overnight Shuttle.

Mobile Campus Safety App 

Safe NYU is New York University’s free mobile campus safety app, developed by the Department of Campus Safety and its Division of Emergency Preparedness and Communications.

The app provides safety and security services at the tap of an icon, including:

  • 911-calling capability for life-threatening situations
  • A call box in the palm of your hand: simultaneously send your location and call NYU Campus Safety
  • Reporting of incidents or tips via in-app forms, real-time chats or voice calls

The app also provides information on how to prepare in case of an emergency, links to transportation information and links to support resources including victim assistance, the wellness exchange and the bias response line. To download the app please visit the NYU Mobile Campus Safety Home Page.
