Visions and voices of a healthy planet: A Healing Arts event for World Health Day 2022

In every crisis, it often seems that the first to arrive to help are healthcare workers and artists. Join NYU’s Chief Sustainability Officer Cecil Scheib, Arts + Health Lead at the World Health Organization, Christopher Bailey, and Founding Co-Direcotor of the Arts + Health @NYU, Dr. Nisha Sajnani in a discussion with care providers and artists across genres and geographies who recognize the relationship between planetary and human health. Speakers include: Renée Fleming, Soprano; Dr Melissa Lem, Director of PaRx, BC Parks Foundation; Modisana Mabale, Performance artist and director, Street Arts Government; Jave Yoshimoto, Visual artist and art therapist; Chantal Bilodeau, Director, Arts and Climate initiative.

Having difficulties figuring out how to care for your new houseplant? Rest assured, it's common among even the most experienced plant owners. In this in-person workshop, GA Som and TA Naomi will go over things to consider when you want to get a new houseplant, how to best take care of it, and common houseplant problems. You'll also gain insight on using the MakerSpace to decorate your pots using the Cricut, 3D printing pots, and laser cutting trellises.

Time is Now: Deciding Our Climate Future

A new report has just been released by the United Nations examining the dire need to further cut emissions and reduce global temperatures. Join Congresswoman Grace Meng as she further explores these findings and discusses measures that must be adopted to safeguard the planet, in a conversation moderated by Professor Bill Rom, an expert in Climate Change and Global Public Health and Environmental Health in a Global World.

Book Launch Panel: Saving Animals, Saving Ourselves by Jeff Sebo

In this book launch panel, Jeff Sebo will discuss information and arguments from his new book with Kendra Coulter and Douglas Kysar. In Saving Animals, Saving Ourselves, Jeff Sebo argues that humans have a moral responsibility to include animals in global health and environmental policy, by reducing our use of them as part of our pandemic and climate change mitigation efforts and increasing our support for them as part of our adaptation efforts.

Gowanus Canal Conservancy Volunteer Event

NYWEA at NYU will be holding their second volunteer event with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy. Volunteer work may include gardening in native plant gardens such as weeding, and applying mulch and compost; potting up native plants in the Lowlands Nursery, and/or creating soil mixes using compost.
