Traveling abroad can be a rich and rewarding experience. Public Safety monitors the globe for possibly impactful events and works with our University global community to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our travelers.

Travelers can experience, however, unexpected difficulties in any city or country. The following travel tips are to help you avoid serious difficulties during your time abroad. We wish you a safe and wonderful journey!

  • Register your trip with NYU Traveler. Registering your trip will allow NYU to contact you in the event of an emergency and assist you in staying safe.
  • Leave copies of your itinerary, passport information page, and visas with family or friends, so you can be contacted in case of an emergency.
  • Pack an extra set of passport photos along with a photocopy of your passport’s information page to make a replacement of your passport easier in the event it is lost or stolen.
  • Learn about the country you will be visiting. When you leave the United States, you are subject to the laws of the country you are visiting. Therefore, before you go, learn as much as you can about the local laws and customs of the places you plan to visit. If you have any questions, please contact us at travelsafety@nyu.edu.
