In the interests of social distancing, schools, departments, programs, and units are strongly discouraged from holding large gatherings. These should be cancelled, postponed, or conducted in a "virtual" way that does not bring large groups of guests and members of the NYU community together in a single venue.
All athletic events and activities for the winter and spring 2020 season have been canceled. For updates on athletics activities, check the NYU Athletics website.
We regret that NYU’s 188th All-University Commencement Exercises will be postponed to a date still to be decided. Likewise, school graduation ceremonies will not go forward as planned. Given the advice of public health officials, restrictions by city and state authorities, and NYU's own sense of obligation to safeguard the safety of our community, we cannot hold such a large assembly this spring.
Once we are on the other side of this difficult and extraordinary time, we will find a way to hold an in-person graduation exercise and properly recognize the Class of 2020. Deans will be in touch with their schools regarding their school plans.
Yes. Weekend on the Square and all admissions events, encompassing campus tours for aspiring applicants as well as events for admitted students, are canceled until further notice. NYU’s Office of Admissions will be assembling enhanced video resources for prospective and admitted students. Visit the Office of Undergraduate Admissions webpage for more information.
We would advise you inform any potential visitors that the University will be cancelling or postponing events on campus and have them plan accordingly. Guests coming from COVID-19 infected countries and US areas (California, Washington state) will not be allowed on campus. All guests from other countries should know that there is a high level of uncertainty regarding whether they will be able to be admitted to the US, whether they will face quarantine, and whether they will be able to return to their home countries in a timely fashion. We therefore discourage guests from other countries, and encourage departments to find means to support remote participation in events and activities.

NYU’s custodial vendor has increased its staff rounds during the day and stepped up cleaning and disinfecting of key locations, including hardware and fixtures that are frequently touched, such as handrails, elevator buttons, and doorknobs. All of NYU's properties are cleaned and disinfected every night. Also, additional hand sanitizer locations have been installed throughout campus; they are checked regularly to ensure sufficient sanitizer is available. (Custodial staff also ensure that soap is available in soap dispensers in bathrooms.) Additional signage is being installed throughout campus to remind the NYU community of the importance of proper hand-washing hygiene.
Some dining facilities will be open with a grab and go option only.
NYU Dining is highly conscientious about food safety, and that includes health of food servers and preparers. NYU Dining has a number of everyday food safety and sanitation procedures in place to avoid illness. In addition, NYU Dining is following CDC guidelines including actively encouraging sick employees (or employees with sick family members) to stay home, providing generous sick leave and related benefits, and requiring employees to clean their hands often with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
