Episode 156: Allen McFarlane, NYU Associate Dean of Students
On this episode, Karen speaks with Allen McFarlane, NYU Associate Dean of Students, Outreach and Engagement. Allen is here to talk about the ways in which the Office of Dean of Students supports students here in NYC and abroad.
With more than 30 years of service to New York University, Allen McFarlane has amassed a notable list of accomplishments and championed innovation for award winning Student Affairs units in the areas of student diversity, diversity education, and career development.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Allen completed his tour of military service at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton Virginia. Upon his honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant, he returned to New York and worked in the import-export industry, publishing and retail. He later enrolled as a student at New York University.
As an alumnus of New York University with undergraduate degrees in Social Sciences (School of Professional Studies) and graduate degree in Higher Education & Administration (Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development), Allen has served on a variety of Boards (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Of Note Magazine, Braata Folk Singers...) and has been honored with awards and recognition from students, colleagues and professionals.
