Purchasing Responsibilities
New York University purchasers must ensure that the technologies procured for the University are accessible to people with disabilities to the greatest extent possible, as specified by University policy.
Accessibility and Purchasing
How can you tell whether a digital product is accessible? Vendors can say their service/product is accessible, but such claims can be incomplete, inaccurate, and even misleading. An inaccessible product can prevent those with disabilities from using it.
Digital Accessibility means people with disabilities can access the same:
- information as any other user,
- features and interactions, and
- services without substantial modification.
Your Responsibilities
When purchasing a product or service, it's important you include accessibility requirements in proposals, contracts, or other service arrangements for digital products whether for internal or public use.
