Captions for video content are essential for those who have audio impairments. However, captions can be beneficial to all. For example, captions allow for watching content in places that are noisy, or where noise isn't permitted. You might also turn on captioning for content where the speakers have accents.

There are three types of captions NYU uses to make videos, live video events, and audio-only events accessible:

  1. Prerecorded video captions
  2. Live video captions
  3. CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation)
