Gaming, Streaming, and Smart Devices on the NYU Network
If you live in an NYU residence hall in New York, you can register game consoles, streaming media devices, and many smart devices, for use on the NYU residence hall network, either via the Ethernet jack in your room or by connecting to the NYU Wi-Fi network. Each student can register up to five devices. If you already have five devices registered, you must de-register one before you can add another.

Permitted Devices
Due to the number of devices on the market, it's not possible to provide a comprehensive list of or detailed support for them. However, streaming boxes and game consoles, and many smart devices, should be able to connect. For specifics on finding your device's settings, please refer to manufacturer guides.
Personal routers are not permitted on the NYU network.

Connect via NYU Wi-Fi (nyu-media)
NYU Wi-Fi's nyu-media network enables gaming, streaming media, and other devices without configurable security options to connect to the internet. It uses a secure, shared password. nyu-media is only available in NYU residence halls and should not be used for computers, phones, or tablets (to connect these devices, see the NYU Wi-Fi page).
The nyu-media password changes every academic year. If you are returning to a residence hall with a previously registered device, you'll need to update the password. Your RA or residence hall front desk has the nyu-media password. It is not the same as your NYU NetID password.
- At your residence hall front desk or from your RA:
- Get the shared password for the nyu-media network. The nyu-media password is NOT your NetID password; it is a single, shared password used by all residents. After establishing the connection using that password, a unique session is created for your device, ensuring that all data is secure.
- On a connected phone or computer:
- Go to computer.registration.nyu.edu.
- Log in with your NYU NetID and password.
- Read and accept the terms of the User Agreement by selecting I AGREE.
- On the screen that appears, select Register Some Other Device.
- Find the MAC address of your device (e.g., 01:33:B2:00:8a:22), enter it, and then click Register. You can confirm your device has been successfully registered by selecting View and looking for the MAC address in the list of registered devices.
- Go to computer.registration.nyu.edu.
- On the device you're connecting:
- In your device's list of available networks, find and select nyu-media.
- Enter the shared password that was provided to you by your RA. You may need to wait up to 20 minutes after registration for your connection to be active. You should then be able to start using your device.
- In your device's list of available networks, find and select nyu-media.
