Personalizing NYU Zoom Pronouns and Display Names
NYU IT, in partnership with the Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation and Zoom, has enabled NYU Zoom users to manage their Pronouns and Display Names through their NYU Zoom Profile. In the spirit of global diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Pronouns and Display Name fields can be used to share pronouns and a chosen/preferred name—empowering each NYU community member to represent themselves to hosts and participants in NYU Zoom meetings and, in turn, be correctly referred to in the ways they identify. Enabling this personalization is one of several measures on NYU IT’s roadmap designed to provide an increasingly inclusive experience in IT services.

Update Your NYU Zoom Pronouns
Using a new Pronouns feature that NYU requested and collaborated with Zoom on designing, all NYU Zoom users can now follow these instructions to personalize their NYU Zoom Pronouns in their Zoom Profile.
When adding or updating your pronouns in Zoom, you can indicate how you want these pronouns to be shared during a meeting (e.g., shared in every meeting, decided when you join each meeting, unshared on the fly during a meeting, or only visible on your Zoom profile). Your preferences will be reflected immediately in your NYU Zoom Profile, and in the Participants list of all of your future NYU Zoom meetings, as long as you log into your NYU Zoom account at nyu.zoom.us before joining meetings. You can also unshare your pronouns during an NYU Zoom Meeting by finding your name in the Participants list, clicking the More button, and selecting Unshare My Pronouns.
Update Your NYU Zoom Display Name
The most reliable way to change the way your name is displayed in NYU Zoom meetings is to personalize your NYU Zoom Display Name before joining a meeting. Then, be sure to log into your NYU Zoom account at nyu.zoom.us before joining future meetings to ensure your preferred settings are visible.
If you change your Display Name in your Zoom Profile during a meeting, the update will not be visible unless you leave the meeting and rejoin, or until you start or join a new meeting. You may be able to temporarily change your Display Name during a meeting by finding your name in the Participants list, clicking the More button, and selecting Rename. (Note, however, that the meeting host may have turned off the option to “Allow participants to rename themselves” during the meeting for security reasons.)
