NYU Email Is Getting an Updated Look
By Victoria Lubas and Keith Allison | February 9, 2022
If you check your NYU Email using a browser, you'll soon see an invitation to try a new layout—if you haven't seen it already. Google is rolling out a new three-panel layout, which they call the integrated view, and which eliminates the current format's left-hand navigation drop-down menus. It's similar to the current Gmail mobile app in that it allows you to dedicate your screen space to one communication method at a time.
The new sidebar consists of five buttons—one to compose an email and the remaining four to navigate to Mail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet. It uses the familiar Google iconography to minimize the appearance of tabs and action buttons. When the new navigation menu is enabled, you can switch between your inbox and conversations, and join meetings without switching tabs or opening a new window. When working in Chat and Spaces, you can view a full list of conversations and Spaces within a single screen. When working in your inbox, you’ll be able to view the full array of Mail and Label options currently available in Gmail.
The update is opt-in until April, after which it will become the standard Gmail view in browsers.
