Pilot Foundations for Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Excellence Module

We are proud to announce the release of the university-wide Foundations for Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Excellence Pilot Module in the Spring of 2022. We strongly encourage all our NYU community members to complete this pilot module and brief exit survey by April 24, 2022. Your feedback will be used to develop a finalized version of the module to be released in AY 2022–2023.

What is the Pilot Foundations for Global DEI Excellence Module?

As one of our ongoing NYU BeTogether efforts, this is a 60–75 minute self-paced learning tool created to support a shared understanding of global inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access-related concepts and frameworks across all NYU constituents. The first part of the module provides general information, raises critical questions, and directs community members to vital internal and external resources at their disposal. The second part of the module covers content tailored to your role as a student, faculty, administrator, and/or staff.

By engaging in this module, NYU community members will:

  • Engage foundational concepts related to global inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access;
  • Revisit our goals and values as an NYU community. In doing so, recognize that global inclusion, diversity, belonging, equity, and access must be at the core of all we do;
  • Recognize systemic oppressions that members of historically marginalized communities have and continue to confront;
  • Consider frameworks for ongoing and sustained learning and action toward contributing to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment; and
  • Recommit ourselves to accountability, ongoing learning, growth, and sustained, multi-level action to make transformational change together.

Additional Resources

OGI has provided action guides for students, faculty, and staff/administrators to support your engagement with the module’s content.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions you are welcome to email us at foundations-pilot@nyu.edu.

Acknowledgments

The Office of Global Inclusion is committed to engaging a broad base of students, faculty, staff, and administrators in our pursuit of a more inclusive living, learning, and working environment. We would like to thank our partners across the institution for their support in developing this initial pilot content, including but not limited to the Office the President, Office of the Provost, Office of General Counsel, University Relations and Public Affairs, NYU IT, NYU Media, Human Resources, and the Division of Student Affairs. We would also like to share our gratitude with the 1000+ students, faculty, and staff that have engaged in, reviewed, and provided feedback on earlier versions of this pilot. We would not be here without your vital contributions.

Please note: The current module was recorded over Zoom amid the pandemic. OGI and our partners prioritized improving the module’s content over its production quality to ensure we met the ongoing, immediate needs of the NYU community and plan to re-record segments of footage for the finalized module. Additionally, this initial pilot module is centered in the US context. OGI will work with partners to create additional context-specific modules for our Abu Dhabi and Shanghai campuses and global sites in the future. Community members at our global sites and campuses will also have access to the pilot module to provide feedback to inform these future versions.
