An NYU alumna, Karin Burrell is a mentor and leadership strategist who embodies inclusive leadership. Burrell has been an active and vocal member of the NYU community for more than three decades and her devotion to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion is evidenced by the concrete changes she’s implemented within her department and beyond.
Burrell has actively served on the AMC's Administrators for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (AIDE) Committee for several years. In 2016, she was central to the creation of the Department of History’s diversity committee, which she has co-chaired since its inception. She was also instrumental in the launch of the department’s Students of Color Forum, which seeks to provide a supportive space for graduate students of color to connect and collectively work toward building an inclusive culture within the department. Due to her efforts to make sure students feel their voices are heard, Karin is known as a resource for students and staff.
Burrell is an active and powerful voice for underprivileged and underrepresented students, staff, and faculty at NYU. She works in solidarity with other communities—actively encouraging allies to transform into accomplices.
