Dean's Exceptions for Commencement
Students who have up to two courses remaining to complete their degree requirements by September 2024 may request permission from their school to participate in May 2024 All-University Commencement-related activities as a Dean's Exception.
As approved by the University's Deans Council, Dean’s Exceptions are candidates for graduation who are permitted to participate in Commencement although they have not yet completed their coursework, with up to two courses outstanding (which must be completed by the end of the summer term).
The College of Dentistry and School of Medicine do not allow Dean's Exceptions.
Graduating students who are approved for a Dean's Exception and participate in May 2024 Commencement activities will not be eligible to attend the All-University Commencement ceremony in May 2025. Similarly, graduates who requested a Dean's Exception in May 2023 are not eligible to participate in the May 2024 ceremony.
Steps to receive a Dean's Exception will be added in Spring 2024.
