With 58 classrooms, academic space is the foremost building use, with nearly 40 percent of the square footage directed towards educational purposes. The Paulson Center will also provide NYU’s music and performing arts programs with state-of-the-art, purpose-built spaces for its music and theatre students, including a 350-seat theatre, dozens of new music instruction and practice rooms, and an ensemble rehearsal and performance hall.

Rooms are primarily being used for scheduled classes.  If available, they may be reserved.

Recommended Access:
The entrance at the corner of Bleecker St. and Mercer St. is the closest to these classrooms.  After entering take the stairs or elevator to your class' floor. 

You may also enter at the corner of Houston and Greene St., take the stairs or elevator to the second or fourth floor and walk to the north side of the building where these classrooms are located.

Please note: the third floor is interrupted by The Commons and you are unable to walk from the north side to the south side of the building without moving to the second or fourth floor first.

Floor 4 (Rooms 460–467):

Recommended Access:
The entrance at the corner of Houston and Greene St. is the closest to most theater production spaces.  You may also enter at the corner of Bleecker St. and Mercer St., take the stairs or elevator to the fourth floor, then walk along the perimeter to the south side of the building.

Floor 5 (Rooms 500–521 A-E and 561-565 F-H)
Includes general studios, dance/martial arts studios, and cabaret studios

Recommended Access:
The entrance at the corner of Bleecker St. and Mercer St. is the closest to most studio.  After entering take the stairs or elevator to the fifth floor.

You may also enter at the corner of Houston and Greene St., take the stairs or elevator to the fifth floor and walk along the perimeter to the center or north side of the building.

Study Spaces

There are a variety of drop in lounge and study spaces throughout the Paulson Center, inlcluding the Commons and collaberative study rooms.

Study Rooms

Floor 2 (Room 257):
Includes a quiet drop-in study room

Floor 3 (Rooms 350-354):
Includes: 4 collaboration rooms, a medium and a large quiet drop-in study rooms

You may also enter at the corner of Houston and Greene St., take the stairs or elevator to the second floor and walk along the perimeter to the Commons to reach the second floor study room or take the stairs on the west wall up to the third floor.

Open Spaces

Floor 2:
The Commons features a large hall for drop-in study, eating, and gatherings

Floors 2–7:
Open lounges can be found near both primary elevator banks on each floor.  You will also find some seating along the glass perimeter and just outside classrooms.

Recommended Access:
The entrance at the corner of Bleecker St. and Mercer St. or Houston and Greene St.  After entering take the stairs or elevator to any floor between 2–7.

Music Practice Spaces

Small music practice spaces are available for Steinhardt music majors.  Many of the rooms will accommodate a musician and a piano accompianist.

  • Floor 7 (Rooms 711-792)

Recommended Access:
Both main entrances at the corner of Bleecker St. and Mercer St. and the corner of Houston and Greene St. are close to practice rooms.  After entering take the elevator or stairs to the seventh floor.
