Balanced Cylinders Five, NYU Tandon in the background

Paul Sisko
Balanced Cylinders Five
designed 1984, installed 2002
Welded Steel
28 feet tall, two tons

Of the cylinders, four are precariously balanced one on top of the next as if in the process of collapsing, with the fifth appearing to have just toppled to the ground.

This massive two ton sculpture is set on a concrete base secured 5 feet deep underground in order to support it's prodigious weight.

"I call it an 'earthquake moment. It's quite a piece of engineering. There's no direct line between each of the cylinders," Sisko said.
