Important Note: The i4 server is no longer accepting requests for new accounts and active websites must be migrated before the scheduled retirement in July 2022.

In your SFTP program, use the following settings:

Hostname Username Password
i4.nyu.edu your NetID
your NetID password

Before you can establish a connection to the server, you'll need to complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) through the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device. If you haven't done so already, please enroll in MFA.

If you don't have an iOS or Android device, including a phone or a tablet, enrolled in MFA then you'll instead need to complete the authentication process with an enrolled phone number.

Important Note: You will not get to select your authentication method when connecting to the i4 server through an SFTP client. Regardless of your preferred authentication method, if you have the Duo Mobile app installed then you must authenticate using the app.

Once you've successfully connected to the server, you'll be placed into your home directory on i4. There should be a shortcut created for you called (usually) "web". By clicking this folder, you'll be placed into your web directory on the server.

The view of the file system will depend on the SFTP program you're using to connect. With Fetch, you'll see the contents of your web directory in one main window. With Fugu and WinSCP, you'll see the contents of your local machine on the left and your web directory on the right.

SFTP Client Support

Other SFTP Software

NYU IT distributes Fetch software (for macOS), and the NYU Web Team supports Fugu for macOS, and WinSCP for Windows. While you may use other programs, such as FileZilla, Cyberduck, Dreamweaver, and Transmit, they are not supported by the NYU Web Team.
