Changing Page Navigation

Change a Page Title

The page title is the text that is displayed in large H1 (header 1) format above page content and at the very top of the browser window. To change the title of your page (without affecting the URL name), you can do so by modifying the page properties.

  1. Use the left-hand Navigation Pane to navigate to the parent page of the page you want to modify.
  2. Click once on the parent page in the Navigation Pane so that it is highlighted in green and a list of child pages appear in the right-hand Details Pane.
  3. Locate the page you want to modify in the Details Pane. To open Page Properties:
    1. Right-click on the page you want to modify and select "Page Properties" from the menu; or
    2. Open the page you want to modify and from the Page tab in the Sidekick, click on "Page Properties...".
  4. While in the Basic tab, locate the Title field.
  5. Modify your page title and click OK to confirm.
  6. Follow steps to reactivate your page to publish these changes on the live site.

Rename a Page URL

It is possible to update the URL name of a page in the CMS if, for example, you have changed the page title and need to update the URL to match or if there was a typo when originally creating the page. While you may also change the page URL name without affecting the page title, we would encourage you to maintain consistency with the CMS page naming process and permit the system to automatically provide the URL name for each of your pages.

To open the page renaming window:
    1. Click on the page you want to modify so it is highlighted in green. Click "Move..." from the menu bar; or
    2. Right-click on the page you want to modify and select "Move..." from the menu; or
    3. Open the page you want to modify and from the Page tab in the Sidekick, click on "Move Page".
  4. The Move window will open. Renaming a page URL is considered a page move because we are moving the page to a different URL.
  5. In the Rename to field type in the new URL name for the page. The updated name should be all lowercase and dashes (-) instead of spaces.
  6. Also in the Move window will be a list of pages that reference the page being renamed. Make sure to leave the checkmarks in the boxes under the Adjust and Republish columns so that your new page URL name is updated on all pages on which it is referenced.
  7. Click Move to confirm the new page URL name.

Note: For any major page URL or hierarchy changes that need to be made, please consult DigiComm and submit a Project Request Form.

Hide a Page in Navigation

When a new child page is created, a link to that page will appear in the site navigation on the left-hand side of the parent page. In cases where you do not want a child page to appear in the site navigation, it is possible to hide it by modifying page properties.

  7. Newly reordered pages will have updated numbers to correspond to the order in which they now appear in the left-hand subnavigation on the live site.
  8. This will also be reflected in the left-hand side Navigation Pane underneath the parent page.

You can only reorder pages that live under the same parent page and are therefore sibling pages. If you need to relocate a child page to move out from underneath a parent page, please submit a Project Request Form.
