Retiree Dental Plan
Upon retirement from NYU, you and your eligible dependents can enroll in the NYU Retiree Dental Plan through MetLife. This dental plan provides coverage for routine care and can also help protect you against unforeseen and sometimes costly expenses of dental care. For complete details, see Retiree Dental Benefits (PDF: 175 KB).
COBRA Dental Benefits
You may also choose to continue with the same dental coverage you had as an active employee for a maximum period of 18 months under the provisions of a Federal Law known as the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). This plan offers richer dental benefits than the Retiree dental plan. If you elect coverage, you pay the full cost of the plan plus a 2% administrative fee. After the 18 month period is over, you may then transition to the Retiree Dental Plan.

You and your dependents are automatically enrolled in the NYU Retiree Discount Vision Plan, provided by VSP, at no cost to you. You select a VSP private-practice provider to receive discounts on eye exams and eyewear. You will receive a VSP Access Plan ID card in the mail. For complete details, see Retiree Discount Vision Plan (PDF).
