Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Lena Al-Sabban is a board eligible oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a clinical instructor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the NYU College of Dentistry. She holds her BDS degree from King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She completed an Oral & Maxillofacial surgery internship year at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, and she completed her Oral & Maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Al-Sabban also completed a fellowship in orthognathic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Her surgical practice focuses on dentoalveolar and implant surgery, treatment of temporomandibular joint disease (TMD), orthognathic surgery, trauma, and the treatment of dentofacial deformities. Dr. Al-Sabban is a member of American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Trevor Bavar has been practicing dental implantology for more than thirty years. After graduation from the NYU College of Dentistry, Dr. Bavar completed a two-year residency in dental prosthetics, followed by two years of service in the United States Army as a Prosthodontist. Dr. Bavar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Implantology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. As Clinical Professor and Co-Director of the Continuing Dental Education Implant Program at the NYU College of Dentistry, Dr. Bavar has trained many of the dentists performing implantology today. Dr. Bavar lectures extensively in this country and abroad.

Dr. Mijin Choi, DDS, MS, FACP is a Board Certified Prosthodontist/Maxillofacial Prosthodontist. Dr. Choi received her DDS degree from Columbia University, School of Dentistry and Oral Surgery. She continued her studies at University of Maryland, where she completed her prosthodontic training, and obtained a Master of Science in Oral Biology. Additionally, Dr. Choi obtained the Maxillofacial Prosthetic Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Choi is presently at New York University College of Dentistry, directing the Advanced Prosthodontics Education. Dr. Choi provides care with expertise and clinical skill in implant restorations, fixed & removable prosthodontics, maxillofacial prosthetics, cosmetics dentistry as well as the management of medically compromised patients.

Dr. Alper Comut holds a DMD degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, a Doctor of Medical Science degree in Oral Biology from Harvard University, and a certificate in prosthodontics from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Comut is a prosthodontist specializing in complex esthetic cases and full-mouth rehabilitation, including full porcelain crowns, porcelain veneers, and full porcelain inlays and onlays; single crowns and bridges, full-mouth fixed partial dentures, and complete dentures and overdentures; and implant-supported crowns, bridges, and overdentures. Dr. Comut is an Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics at NYU College of Dentistry.

Dr. Ronald G. Craig graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and completed his combined post-graduate program in Periodontology and a Ph.D. in Oral Biology at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He is presently an Associate Professor in the Departments of and Basic Sciences/Craniofacial Biology and Periodontics. Dr. Craig directs a collaborative clinical research program with the Forsyth Institute in Boston, the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Beth Israel Medical Center and the NYU College of Dentistry and lectures nationally and internationally in the areas of periodontal wound healing and the systemic effects of periodontal infections.

Dr. Robert Davidson is an Associate Professor at NYU College of Dentistry, and holds dual appointments in the Departments of Basic Science and Craniofacial Biology and Periodontics. Dr. Davidson received his D.D.S. degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and following graduation, practiced general dentistry in northern Maine. He subsequently pursued studies at the University of Buffalo, where he received advanced training in Periodontics, as well as a Ph.D. degree in Oral Biology (Neurobiology). Prior to coming to NYU, Dr. Davidson held a faculty position at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. His research interests focus primarily on the physiology of mineralized tissue, including bone and dental pulp cells.

Dr. Cosmo V. De Steno, DMD, PhD, FACP, FACD, FICD attended Fordham University, and received his DMD degree from the New Jersey College of Dentistry in 1969. In 1973, he received his Certificate in Prosthodontics from the University of Alabama Dental School and earned a Ph.D. degree in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Alabama Graduate Medical School. Dr. DeSteno then joined the ranks of the UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School faculty as Assistant Professor in the Departments of Prosthodontics and Oral Biology.

From 1973 to 2000 Dr. De Steno was in the private practice of Prosthodontics in Ridgewood, New Jersey. From 1999 to 2007, Dr. De Steno assumed significant administrative roles in UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School as Chief Operations Officer for the NJDS-Center for Dental and Oral Health and the Dental Implant Center, Associate Dean for the Office for Interdisciplinary and Extramural Programs, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and then Associate Dean for Extramural Affairs. Dr. DeSteno is currently Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the NYU College of Dentistry.

Dr. De Steno is nationally recognized as an expert in the field of Prosthodontics, Implantology and Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction. He has provided national leadership to the dental profession in the specialty of Prosthodontics, has served as President of the American College of Prosthodontists, the American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation, the New Jersey Dental School Alumni Association and the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics.

Dr. De Steno, a Diplomate with the American Board of Prosthodontists, is responsible for developing and publishing the Journal of Prosthodontics, the Official Journal of the American College of Prosthodontists, as well as numerous articles and contributions to textbooks.

Dr. De Steno has recently joined the NYU Dental Faculty Practice where he maintains his private practice.

Dr. Michael Ferguson graduated, with honors, from Boston University's Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 1989, DMD, and 1990 CAGS. He spent 7 years on BU's Dental Faculty and 8 years at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr Ferguson has joined the faculty at NYU College of Dentistry and the NYU Faculty Practice. Dr Ferguson lectures, teaches in the pre-doctoral clinics and is actively involved in academic and clinical research. Dr Ferguson is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Dental Educators Association, and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, International Association of Dental Research and the American Academy of Dental Research. Dr Ferguson has published in the dental literature on subjects dealing with esthetics such as tooth color and bleaching teeth. He has also published on academic/curricular subjects as well.

Dr. Kenneth Fleisher is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the NYU College of Dentistry. Dr. Fleisher is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Fleisher's expertise includes oral cancer, dental implants, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, jaw reconstruction and necrotic bone disease. In addition to the NYU Medical Center, Dr. Fleisher practices at NYU affiliate hospitals such as the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Lenox Hill Hospital, and Bellevue Hospital Center.

Dr. Laurie Fleisher received both her DMD degree and her Certificate in Endodontics from the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Fleisher was previously a Clinical Instructor at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.

At New York University College of Dentistry, Dr. Fleisher is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in both the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care and the Department of Endodontics. Dr. Fleisher was recently appointed Director of Urgent Care at the College.

She is a member of the faculty council leadership board, a student mentor, a peer assessment facilitator, a student club faculty advisor, an interviewer for the admissions committee and has founded the NYUCD Endodontic Study Club for predoctoral students.

Dr. Fleisher serves on the editorial board for the International Journal of Experimental Dental Science and is currently the President of the Endodontic Section of ADEA. She has presented Endodontic continuing education for international dentists as well as presenting nationally.

Dr. Fleisher maintains a practice at the New York University Dental Faculty Practice where she specializes in endodontic therapy, endodontic retreatment, the diagnosis of complex dental pain, and the treatment of dental traumatic injury.

Dr. Jennifer Gibbs is an assistant professor of endodontics at the NYU College of Dentistry. She holds a DDS degree and a PhD in Neurobiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio; and an MAS in Clinical Research and a certificate in endodontics from the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Gibbs specializes in non-surgical or conventional root canal treatment; root canal re-treatment, including removal of posts or other canal impediments; acute pain management; endodontic management of traumatized teeth; and diagnosis of complex dental pain cases.

Dr. Robert S. Glickman is Chair of the Mecca Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at NYU College of Dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a member of the New York Academy of Medicine. Dr. Glickman lectures nationally and internationally and has authored multiple articles and publications in peer-reviewed journals, with a focus on oral pathology and jaw reconstruction.

Dr. Leila Jahangiri is Chair of the Dr. Louis Blatterfein Department of Prosthodontics at NYU College of Dentistry. She received her D.M.D degree, a Certificate in Prosthodontics, and a Master's degree in Oral Biology from Harvard University. She previously was Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Dental School, and Codirector of Prosthodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. The recipient of the Arthur R. Frechette Award in Prosthodontics from the International Association of Dental Research, Dr. Jahangiri is an authority in prosthodontics, implants, and esthetic dentistry.

Dr. Vasiliki Karlis is an associate professor in the Mecca Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the NYU College of Dentistry. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and holds a Doctor of Medical Dentistry (D.M.D.) degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, an M.D. degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, and a Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Bellevue Hospital Center, an affiliate of NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Karlis is an authority on jaw disorders and has written and lectured extensively on this and other subjects in the United States and abroad. In addition to the NYU Medical enter, Dr. Karlis practices at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary and at NYU affiliate hospitals including Bellevue Hospital Center, Lenox Hill Hospital, and the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute.

Dr. A. Ross Kerr is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Medicine, and the Director of Special Patient Care and Hospital Dentistry at NYU College of Dentistry. Dr. Kerr received his D.D.S.degree from McGill University, and a Master of Science in Dentistry and a Certificate in Oral Medicine from the University of Washington. He also completed a general practice dental residency program at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. His research interests include aphthous stomatitis (canker sores) and oral cancer. His clinical practice focuses on the dental management of medically complex patients and the diagnosis and treatment of patients with oral mucosal disease, salivary gland dysfunction and oral-facial pain.

Dr. Gerald M. Klaczany is an Associate Professor in the Division of Cariology and Operative Dentistry and Director of Operative Clinics at the NYU College of Dentistry. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1986. In addition to teaching, Dr. Klaczany practices general dentistry privately and is an active leader and past president of the NYU College of Dentistry Alumni Association.

Dr. Neil Lawner, a board certified orthodontist with over thirty years of clinical experience, holds a DDS degree and a certificate in orthodontics from NYU College of Dentistry. Dr. Marci H. Levine is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a clinical instructor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the NYU College of Dentistry. She holds both DMD and MD degrees from Harvard and a Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Levine completed a fellowship in orthognathic surgery and advanced surgical techniques at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Her surgical practice focuses on dentoalveolar and implant surgery, treatment of temporomandibular joint disease (TMD) and the treatment of dentofacial deformities. Dr. Levine is an active member of the New York organized dentistry community, serves as the Secretary of the New York County Dental Society and is a member of the Council on Governmental Affairs of the New York State Dental Association as well as an alternate member of the ADA House of Delegates.

Dr. James LoPresti is an Associate Professor and Director in the Department of Cariology and Operative Dentistry at the NYU College of Dentistry. A graduate of the College, Dr. LoPresti practiced privately on Staten Island for 20 years and has served on the Medical/Dental Staff of the Staten Island University Hospital. He has presented extensively, both nationally and internationally, on modern esthetic dentistry and is an active member in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Ms. Eva Lupovici is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Dental Hygiene and the Director for Dental Hygiene Clinics at the College of Dentistry. Professor Lupovici earned her Master's degree in Dental Hygiene from Columbia University and served as a tenured clinical coordinator for a decade at Fairleigh Dickenson College of Dentistry until it's closing in 1990. Professor Lupovici has also served as a dental consultant for Head Start since 1976 and presents her research both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Boules Malaty is an Associate Professor and Group Practice Director in the Division of Restorative and Reconstructive Sciences. He is a graduate of Alexandria University (1976) and served in an Egyptian army hospital where he underwent oral surgery training for three years. Dr. Malaty graduated from the NYU College of Dentistry in 1982 and performed post-graduate training in operative dentistry at Columbia University. He has been practicing general and cosmetic dentistry as well as oral surgery since 1976 and maintains a private practice on Long Island. Dr. Malaty has recently completed an advanced two year program in implant dentistry and surgical and prosthetic at the NYU College of Dentistry.

Dr. Marjan Moghadam is a graduate of New York University, College of Dentistry. She completed a General Practice Residency at the Long Island College Hospital. She also received a Masters degree in psychology from the NYU Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. She completed her Specialty training at NYU in the Advanced Education Program in Prosthondontics and has since joined the faculty of the NYU College of Dentistry as a full-time Assistant Clinical Faulty. Dr. Moghadam is a full-time Assistant Clinical Professor at the College of Dentistry where she is Co-Director of Fixed Prosthodontics Clinic for 3rd & 4th year dental students.

Dr. Anabella Oquendo received her DDS degree at Universidad Central de Venezuela and a certificate in the Advanced Program for International Dentists in Aesthetic Dentistry at NYU College of Dentistry, and also served as a Clinical Assistant Fellow in that program. Dr. Oquendo is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care and Director of the Fixed Prosthodontics Laboratory at NYU College of Dentistry.

She specializes in esthetic smile design, all-ceramic prosthodontics including veneers, crowns and bridges, and advanced restorative implant dentistry and full-mouth rehabilitation. Dr. Oquendo lectures at several universities and dental meetings on esthetic and restorative dentistry. In 2010 she was honored by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry with the Award for Excellence in Cosmetic Dental Research. Dr. Oquendo has co-authored chapters and articles in a variety of professional dental publications. She is also an active member of numerous dental committees and societies.

Dr. Miriam R. Robbins is a Clinical Associate Professor of Oral Medicine at NYU College of Dentistry. She holds a D.D.S. degree from the School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and an M.S. degree in management and health policy from NYU's Robert Wagner School of Public Policy. Dr. Robbins was previously affiliated with the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, and with the Johns Hopkins Medical Center, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the James Kernan Hospital in Baltimore. Dr. Robbins is an authority on the treatment of medically-complex patients, especially those with head and neck cancer.

Dr. Glenn K. Rochlen holds a DDS degree from New York University College of Dentistry. Dr. Rochlen is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Cariology and Comprehensive Care department. His areas of expertise include preventative dentistry, complete oral esthetic rehabilitation, implant restoration, and diagnosis of dental pain. Dr. Rochlen is a member of New York Academy of Oral Rehabilitation and New York Academy of Medicine where he serves as secretary.

Dr. Stefanie L. Russell is an Assistant Professor of Periodontics and of Epidemiology & Health Promotion at the NYU College of Dentistry. She received her DDS from the University of Maryland, a Certificate in Periodontology and a Master of Public Health from the University of Connecticut, and a PhD in Epidemiology from Yale University. Dr. Russell is a periodontist specializing in comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, including scaling and root planning; periodontal surgery; tooth bleaching (in-office whitening, as well as trays for home use); fabrication of dental night guards and splints; and consultations and second opinions on periodontal diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Asgeir Sigurdsson is an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Endodontics at NYU College of Dentistry. Dr. Sigurdsson was born and raised in Iceland, and graduated with a DDS degree from University of Iceland in 1988. After one year in private practice, he moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to continue his studies at UNC School of Dentistry, where he received a certificate in endodontics and Master of Science degree with an emphasis on pain and pain perception in 1992. After graduation, he joined the full-time faculty at UNC School of Dentistry and taught there for 12 years. From 2004 to 2012, Dr. Sigurdsson was in a private endodontic practice in Reykjavik and London. He joined the full-time faculty at NYU College of Dentistry in the fall of 2012. A diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, his expertise is on all aspects of endodontics, both conventional and surgical. Additionally, Dr. Sigurdsson is interested in and has published and lectured worldwide on issues of dental trauma and diagnosis of complex facial pain.

Dr. Huzefa Talib, BDS, MFDRCSI, FFDRCSI, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and is currently the Assistant Director of the Advanced Programs for International Dentists in Oral Surgery/RCSI (Oral Surgery with Oral Medicine). He was inducted as a Member and later as a Fellow of the Faculty of Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons. Dr. Talib received his Bachelor's degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Pune in India and completed a three-year, full-time residency in Oral Surgery/Oral Medicine. He previously maintained private practices in Pune, India (1999-2001) and Dubai, UAE (2002-2007) and has mentored & co-authored dental students and surgery residents in numerous research topics. Dr. Talib's surgical practice focuses on dentoalveolar and implant surgery, and treatment of temporomandibular joint disease (TMD).

Dr. Francis Tung is a graduate of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, class of 1986 where he received his DMD and MPH degrees. After four years in private practice in Boston, Dr. Tung returned to Harvard School of Dental Medicine where he received his prosthodontics certificate in 1992. In January of 1993, he relocated to the New York City area and began teaching at New York University College of Dentistry where he is currently a tenured associate professor. He served as associate director for the Post Graduate Prosthodontic Program at NYUCD until December, 2003. Dr. Tung is a member of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics, the American Prosthodontics Society, the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, IADR/AADR, and the American College of Prosthodontists.

Dr. Seiichi Yamano holds a DMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine; a PhD in Immunology/Microbiology from Tokyo Medical University; and an MMSc in Oral Biology from Harvard University. Dr. Yamano is a prosthodontist specializing in complex oral rehabilitation, including restoring defective teeth and replacing missing teeth and associated oral structures with crowns, bridges, dentures, and implants. Dr. Yamano also specializes in ceramic restorations, including veneers, inlays, and onlays to conceal defects or discolored teeth; and bleaching to brighten and whiten discolored teeth. Dr. Yamano is an Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics at NYU College of Dentistry. He speaks English and Japanese.
