Research Interests / Professional Overview:

Dr. Psoter is a tenure-track Associate Professor at NYU College of Dentistry in the Department of Epidemiology and Health Promotion; concomitantly he is appointed as an Associate Professor at University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry. Active in research training, Dr. Psoter is faculty on the NYU Oral Epidemiology Comprehensive Training Grant, an NIH NRSA T32 program to train oral epidemiologists at the PhD level and clinical trialists at the Masters level.  He is acourse director in the NYU Global Master in Public Health program.Dr. Psoter has extensive experience working and collaborating in the international and public health arenas. He has over 17 years of clinical and administrative experience in public health, community health and hospital programs for populations experiencing disparities prior to his research training.

His research has focused on dental caries and cancer. Dr. Psoter's international experiences include calibration on the Bahamas National Oral Health survey; calibration, planning, assisting in the operational management and leading one of three field data collection teams for the WHO/PAHO Basic Oral Health Survey (BOHS) in Haiti. He has consulted in Costa Rica with INCIENSA, the government health research agency on caries and fluorosis. As faculty at the University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry,  Dr. Psoter has served as a consultant on graduate student and faculty research projects including the National Oral Health Survey of 12-year old Puerto Ricans. He was the Associate Project Director of the University of Puerto Rico's (UPR) research infrastructure development NIH-NIDCR funded UPR: Project RIPCOHD. He has also supported the Puerto Rico Dental Association, serving as a member of the journal's Editorial Board. He was  PI of an NIH-NIDCR R-01 titled "Oral Health Outcomes of Early Childhood Malnutrition." This project is a retrospective cohort study of over 1,000 children in Haiti. Dr. Psoter is a co-investigator with Dr. D. Morse the PI on "Risk factors for oral epithelial dysplasia in Puerto Rico," an independent project of the NYU Oral Cancer RAAHP Center U54. He was also the NYUCD PI of the NYU Medical & Dental Schools' Department of Justice "Enhancing Medical and Public Health Capabilities During Times of Crisis" grant.  His current research is focusing on oral cancer including secondary prevention and quality of life issues.
