Research Interests / Professional Overview:

Dr. Phelan received her D.D.S. degree from the School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1977. She completed a residency in oral pathology and training in general pathology at Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Her research is in the area of oral manifestations of HIV infection. She is co-author of the textbook, Oral Pathology for the Dental Hygienist - 4th Edition, 2004, W.B. Saunders] and has authored or co-authored numerous publications in the area of oral pathology and oral manifestations of HIV infection. Her research is in the area of oral manifestations of HIV infection.
