The newest of NYU’s expansive network of global sites, NYU Los Angeles was launched in the Fall of 2019. Each semester the program welcomes a cohort of advanced students interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment and media industries who engage in rigorous academic coursework taught by industry professionals. All students are required to enroll in the Experiential Learning Seminar which allows students the opportunity to pair their classroom experience with a meaningful internship opportunity, working 16-30 hours per week. NYU LA’s presence benefits from connections with the 15,000+ alumni in Southern California and offers a variety of initiatives that serve that population and enlist it in support of the Program.

Because of the emphasis on experiential learning, the student population for the semester tends to be junior and senior level students. An intensive summer program is also available.

A series of experiential opportunities complement the coursework to help students forge careers in entertainment, media, music, technology, and broadcasting:

Discovery Experience - A guided research experience that pairs students with industry professionals to develop real world solutions to real world problems and questions. The Professional Partners then organize a panel of industry peers to whom the students present their findings at the end of the semester.

Mentorship Program - Interested students are matched with a mentor whose career and areas of interest align with the student’s.

Collaboration with Young Entertainment Activists - A source of partnership, networking, and career-building for all NYU LA students, the YEA Activation Hub provides multiple opportunities for students: The Climate Ambassadors Network, Creators for Justice, and 1:1 Career Sessions.

Discovery Sessions - Extracurricular professional development classes free to students. Past topics have included Directing for Television, Developing the Entrepreneurial Mindset and Writing for Audio Storytelling.
