I want to address two very recent US Supreme Court rulings that I know will be disturbing to many in the NYU community, one involving the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and the other involving the striking down of New York State's restrictions on carrying firearms in public.

Today's decision by the Court with respect to Roe v. Wade—Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization—will not affect the gynecologic services offered through NYU's Student Health Center (SHC). The SHC will continue to offer the same set of services it previously offered to those seeking abortion services. Nor will the ruling affect the coverage offered to the University's employees.

With regard to the earlier decision, which struck down a New York State law governing the carrying of firearms outside the home, I want to be quick to assure the campus community that the ruling has no impact on NYU's own rules, which prohibit the presence of firearms on campus.
