New York University President Andrew Hamilton and the NYU Alumni Association (NYUAA) will honor five exceptional members of the NYU community at its annual Awards Luncheon on Friday, April 20 at Gotham Hall in New York City.

Honorees include NASA astronaut Lee M. Morin (GSAS ’78, ’82, MED ’81), Cardinal Health executive George S. Barrett (STERN ’88), former US Secretary of Transportation Anthony R. Foxx (LAW ’96), nursing scholar Billy Rosa (TSOA ’04, MEYERS ’09), and playwright Lindsey Ferrentino (TSOA ’09).

“We are honored to have such a diverse group of honorees this year. From NASA to the arts, technology to healthcare, each honoree represents the profound impact our alumni have made on the world. We are amazed by their leadership and accomplishments,” said Heather Cannady (CAS ’04), President, NYUAA.

Each year, the NYUAA invites alumni to celebrate distinguished members of the NYU community who demonstrate extraordinary achievement and service in their professional, vocational, social, and cultural endeavors. This year, the NYUAA is pleased to honor the following alumni for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields and society:

  • Dr. Lee M. Morin (GSAS ’78, ’82, MED ’81) was selected as an astronaut in 1996. The retired U.S. Navy Captain flew aboard STS-110 in 2002, performing two spacewalks, totaling more than 14 hours. He is currently assigned to the Exploration Branch, where he works on the Orion Multipurpose Crew Vehicle. Morin will receive the Eugene J. Keogh Award for Distinguished Public Service.
  • George S. Barrett (STERN ’88) is executive chairman of Cardinal Health, a global integrated healthcare services and products company. During his tenure, Cardinal Health was recognized as one of the world’s most admired companies, a best company for leaders and for its support of women, diversity, and the arts both locally and globally. Barrett will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
  • Anthony R. Foxx (LAW ’96) is the 17th U.S. Secretary of Transportation who served under the Obama Administration. Since leaving the Department, Foxx started a joint venture with the Related Companies, Related Infrastructure, which acquires and invests in transportation-related service, management, and development businesses. Prior to serving the Department, Foxx served as Charlotte, NC’s 54th and youngest mayor, running successful campaigns in 2009 and 2011. Barrett will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
  • Billy Rosa (TSOA ’04, MEYERS ’09) is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing, PhD Program; Supportive Care Nurse Practitioner at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center; and published author. His specialties include holistic nursing, critical care, palliative care, and global health. He recently spent a year working for the Human Resources for Health Program in Rwanda, East Africa. Rosa will receive the Distinguished Young Alumnus Award.
  • Lindsey Ferrentino (TSOA ’09) is a critically acclaimed playwright. Her plays Ugly Lies the Bone and This Flat Earth have won multiple awards. Her newest work, The Year to Come, will premiere this fall at La Jolla Playhouse. She has received the Cole Porter Playwriting Prize, Holland New Voices Award, Paul Newman Award, and is the only two-time finalist for the Kendeda Playwriting Prize. Lindsey Ferrentino is currently under commission for new plays from South Coast Rep, The Geffen, Roundabout, and MTC. Ferrentino will receive the Distinguished Young Alumna Award.
