Since 1979, the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts has been melding artists and technologists together to explore the “recently possible.”  The results have been clever (texting hoodie), political (stop-and-frisk robot), humanitarian (do-it-yourself cellular networks for developing areas), artistic (wooden mirror), and humorous (stupidshithackathon).  But in all cases, before they were big ideas they were student projects at the now-legendary ITP semi-annual student show.

On Sunday, December 17 and Monday, December 18, ITP’s Winter Show will showcase more than 100 student projects, giving the public a free peak at the latest innovations fostered by this world-renown digital convergence program.

A two-year graduate program within in the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, ITP is designed to explore the imaginative use of communications technologies and how they might augment, improve, and inspire. Since its inception, ITP graduates have gone on to develop internationally renowned products, companies, and works of art. ITP alumni include Dennis Crowley, co-founder and executive chairman of Foursquare, who developed his Dodgeball application while at ITP; Tom Igoe, a chief architect of the Arduino microcontroller; LED visual artist Leo Villarreal; and Processing guru Dan Shiffman.

The winter exhibition will be held at the NYU Tisch Building at 721 Broadway, 4th Floor South, New York, NY 10003, on Sunday, December 17 from 2-6 p.m. and Monday, December 18 from 4-8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
