Faculty Committee on NYU's Global Network

The Faculty Committee on NYU's Global Network assesses the academic state of NYU’s global network (the 12 global sites plus portal campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai) and make recommendations to the President and Provost for improvements, including recommendations for how best to integrate the global centers with schools and programs in New York and one another.

University Faculty Affairs Council

The University Faculty Affairs Advisory Council provides support and coordination on faculty matters across NYU schools and institutes.  Members of this group include individuals with oversight of faculty affairs in their various schools and institutes and those who oversee faculty matters in the Provost’s Office.

Faculty Committee on Technology-Enhanced Education

The Committee on Technology-Enhanced Education at NYU was established to guide the University in using technology to improve teaching and learning. The members of the Committee, assembled in consultation with the Deans and the FSC, can be viewed in the below list.

Graduate Program Committee

As per University Bylaws, the Graduate Program Committee reviews and recommends to the Provost the approval of proposals from colleges, schools, and portal campuses with respect to new graduate programs granting master's and doctoral degrees. The Committee evaluates all master’s and doctoral program proposals to ensure that the University’s colleges, schools, and portal campuses with graduate components maintain comparable standards of work for the degrees. It ensures that there has been consultation with the relevant colleges, schools, and/or portal campuses; and that there is minimal curricular overlap between or among the units. The Committee also may formulate recommendations to the Provost on other matters that relate to graduate education in the University. The Committee does not review new program concentrations; however, they must be submitted to the New York State Education Department via the Office of Academic Program Review and Assessment.

Doctoral Affairs Council

NYU's Doctoral Affairs Council, co-chaired by Vice Provost Diana Arpino and Dean Lynne Kiorpes, is charged with sponsoring university-wide initiatives to strengthen the doctoral student experience across NYU. In addition to annually sponsoring the NYU outstanding dissertation award competition and a welcome reception for first-year doctoral students, the Council has worked in recent years to improve opportunities to build cohesion and community in the doctoral community, to grow approaches to mentorship and professional development, and enhance doctoral data outcomes and placement tracking.

Undergraduate Program Committee

As per University Bylaws, the Undergraduate Program Committee advises the Provost on proposals from colleges, schools, and portal campuses for new undergraduate majors and degree programs, as well as for cross-school minors. The Committee reviews all such program proposals to ensure that the University’s colleges, schools, and portal campuses with undergraduate components maintain comparable standards of work for the degrees; that units proposing new programs have consulted appropriate colleges, schools, and/or portal campuses; and that there is minimal curricular overlap between or among the units. At the request of the President and Chancellor and/or the Provost, or at its own discretion, the Committee may also formulate recommendations on other matters that relate to undergraduate education in the University.

Undergraduate Academic Affairs Committee

The Undergraduate Academic Affairs Committee focuses on undergraduate student academic life. Chaired by the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs and for the Humanities, this committee comprises distinguished members of our faculty and student body from across the University. The committee advises the University administration on any and all matters of academic importance to our undergraduate students.

IT Research Technology Faculty Advisory Board

The NYU IT Research Technology Faculty Advisory Board (RT FAB) assists in running, growing, and transforming research computing facilities and services in order to help retain existing faculty, attract new researchers, and acquire additional funding. The Board provides a structured way to collect technology related computing and support needs from the NYU research community; IT Research Technology related hiring priorities; annual IT Research Technology projects and funding requests, and feedback on IT policies and operational issues. The Board also recommends expansions and upgrades to advanced technology infrastructure and research support services that will enable scholars to undertake cutting-edge research, increase competitiveness of proposals, enhance collaboration with peers, and integrate research with education.

Provost’s ad hoc Academic Advisory Committee

The Provost’s ad hoc Academic Advisory Committee (PAAC) is a standing committee which conducts reviews to advise the Provost on promotion and tenure University-wide, and is administered on behalf of the Provost by the Vice Provost. This is consistent with NYU promotion and tenure guidelines, which allow for the Provost to solicit additional information and letters of evaluation and/or to appoint an ad hoc advisory committee composed of tenured faculty.

Art in Public Places

The Art in Public Places initiative was established to consider spaces around the University where public art may be displayed; compose a policy concerning public art at NYU; make recommendations regarding the Mercer construction project and the decentralized nature of art and public spaces at NYU; evaluate the benefit of NYU's commissioning public art; and draft a brief statement stating why public art is an important cause and is beneficial to a person’s learning environment and general sense of wellbeing. This group is chaired by Lynn Gumpert, Director of NYU Grey Art Gallery.

Disabilities, Inclusion and Accessibility Working Group

The Disabilities, Inclusion and Accessibility Working Group, chaired by Karen Jackson-Weaver, Senior Associate Vice President, Global Faculty Engagement & Innovation Advancement, is tasked with the following, along with any additional initiatives, in conjunction with the Disability Council and Disability Student Union:

Space Planning Working Group

The Space Planning Working Group (SPWG) acts as an advisory body to the Provost and Executive Vice President to ensure that requests for new space and proposals for major capital projects are reviewed and prioritized in a University-wide context. SPWG standardizes the processes for allocating new space to schools and administrative units, developing new space, and authorizing planning studies and capital projects.

The Space Planning and Development Guidelines (PDF: 741KB) describe the University's process for assigning additional space to academic and administrative units, acquiring new leased or owned University space, undertaking major renovations and authorizing planning studies and capital projects.

Site-Specific Advisory Committees

Site-Specific Advisory Committees (SSACs) bring together Site Directors and faculty representatives from departments and schools across the University who are dedicated to enriching academic programs and scholarly experiences for students, faculty, and others who visit the Global Sites. The SSACs, chaired by faculty members, facilitate discussions related to all academic and curricular matters at each Global Site and ensure departmental involvement and oversight of academic matters at the Global Sites.
