Dear NYU Parents and Families --
I hope everyone is healthy and well. The May Newsletter is usually our last communication for the academic year, however with so many things still to be decided for the Fall semester, we will continue our newsletters through the summer and NYU staff will remain available to answer calls and emails. For May, this edition includes updates on virtual graduation events, summer courses, career development, final exams, global services, and what we know for now regarding Fall 2020.
As this most remarkable Spring semester comes to a close, I want to thank you for your candid suggestions and your supportive comments. I know it has been a challenging time for all of us, but most especially for our students -- both in and out of the classroom.
-- David Vogelsang, Parent Helpline
Information and updates are constantly changing. We hope your student has been a good resource of information for you, as well as the many communications sent through this listserve. Mark your calendars for a Celebration for the Class of 2020 on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern). This online event will salute our graduating students through remarks and videos, and will conclude with a conferral of degrees by President Hamilton. This virtual celebration will not replace the in-person Commencement, which is postponed and will be rescheduled. Additionally, each NYU school will hold a virtual celebration to recognize its graduates.
Grad Alley, our annual pre-Commencement block party, is being reimagined as one of the largest social VR gatherings ever held. While nothing compares to reuniting in person, our graduating students can "meet up" with NYU friends once again in a familiar setting at our Virtual Reality Grad Alley. Graduates can log in on Tuesday, May 19, anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (EDT), choose an avatar, and celebrate in Washington Square Park by playing carnival games, exploring the Bobst lobby maze, trying your luck with NYU trivia, or just dancing away in our disco.
Join the Class of 2020 and the Washington Square News with tributes to graduating seniors -- add comments, photos and videos here!
Want to recognize your graduate? Please submit a congratulatory message, photo, or video to the Proud to Be First online message book by Wednesday, May 13, at 11:59pm EDT.
Registering for summer courses is a great way for your student to stay on track, complete degree requirements, or even accelerate their progress towards graduation. All classes will be remote and there are flexible options for 12-, 6-, and 3-week courses. Students can register for summer courses in Albert. If they have questions or need assistance with this process, reach out to the Office of Student Success at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The last day of classes for the Spring semester is May 11, 2020. The official exam period is May 13-19. Final grades will be posted to a student's Albert account, the online student information system, within 24 hours after they have been submitted by professors to the Registrar's Office.
The NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development has prepared a new Violet Ready digital resource to help students build the skills employers value most. No matter where or how students are spending their summer, they can use this resource to continue preparing for professional success. For those students who are finishing their degree this May, the Wasserman team stands ready to support their transition to life beyond NYU. Graduates maintain full access to all Wasserman resources and services for a year after graduation and gain access to our alumni career services after that.

As per the President's email last week, our aim and expectation is to be back on campus in person in the fall, but the health and safety of our students and our community is our top priority, and has been our guiding light throughout this crisis, so developments could change things.
While we wish we could guarantee a return to campus in the fall or to specify precisely what the alternatives might be, the reality is that it is simply too early and the situation is still evolving too quickly for us to provide any details with certainty. But we can say this: one way or the other, in fall 2020 NYU will be fully open and operational and educating its students. Stay tuned to updates through the summer.
