Where has the time gone? It's hard to believe that this is the last week of classes with final exams beginning next week. As we celebrate the Class of 2018 and wish them much success, we are also welcoming the Class of 2022 as they eagerly await their arrival in August.
This will be our final newsletter until August; however, staff will be available throughout the summer to answer questions. Please be sure to note that classes in New York will begin the day after Labor Day in Fall 2018. For those parents who have been with us the past four years --Congratulations on your student's graduation! A special thanks to everyone for all your questions and calls throughout the year. For our new parents who have made their way to this listing - Welcome! We look forward to hearing from you during the summer and meeting you in the fall. Please find helpful information below to assist with the end of year transition, as well as reminders about the start of next year for returning students.
Residence Hall Move-Out
As mentioned in last month's newsletter, residents should plan to move-out within 24 hours of their last exam (exam week is May 9-15) or by 12:00pm on Wednesday, May 16, whichever comes first. Graduating seniors are required to checkout by 12:00pm on the day after their last graduation ceremony. Students should be in touch with their Residence Hall Director well in advance regarding any issues related to checking out on time. Residence Hall staff contact information is available on respective Residence Hall pages.
TIPS ON MOVE-OUT
As many students underestimate the time it will take to clear out their rooms, you may want to encourage your student to begin packing their belongings at least a few days in advance. NYU does not provide storage; however, a listing of commonly used storage options is available by clicking here. Note that NYU has no affiliation with any of the resources provided. Also, if you are driving into the city, please be aware that unlike August move-in, there is no reserved parking. You must observe all parking and standing regulations to avoid getting a ticket! Please read the signs carefully before parking. As always, we advise not leaving your car unattended.
The Department of Public Safety, in partnership with SuperShuttle, provides airport shuttle service between NYU Residence Halls or the Kimmel Center to LaGuardia and JFK International airports. The service is available around major University breaks. For reservations, costs, dates, read more >>
The official exam period is May 9-15. Specific class exam dates and times are available by clicking here. Final grades will be posted to a student's Albert account, the online student information system, within 24 hours after they have been submitted by professors to the Registrar's Office. Please consult with your student to determine when they will be finished with exams as dates may be earlier than what is published for a particular class.

Graduating Senior Responsibilities
By now, seniors should have reserved event tickets, ordered academic attire, and scheduled to have their portrait taken (if interested). The Commencement webpage, www.nyu.edu/commencement, has information on those topics as well as the Yankee Stadium ceremony, Grad Ally, and area hotels.
School specific ceremony details are available from this page.
Graduating students should also make plans for other important tasks that can be easily overlooked during this busy time such as returning library books and closing Campus Cash / Dining Dollar accounts. Additional reminders include:
- Health Insurance: Visit the Student Health Center page for information about transitioning student health care needs and health insurance coverage.
- Student Address: Students should review their permanent address information (by signing into Albert) to ensure diplomas are mailed to the correct address. Diplomas are mailed about eight weeks after the degrees have been awarded. For May graduates, that should be in early August.
- And of course, we hope students will join the ranks of the thousands who graduated before them as a member of the NYU Alumni Association and take advantage of the exclusive benefits offered.
What to Do While You're in NYC for Graduation
For parents, we know this isn’t any ordinary trip to New York. You’re here for the Big Day -- for a cap and gown (at last), and for as many posed family portraits as your brand-new NYU graduate, decked out in violet, will endure. If you’re looking for more to do while you’re visiting NYC, take a look at our “Family Guide”.
Looking Ahead to Fall 2018
For parents of students returning to New York in the Fall (sophomore to senior), the most common question we receive is "when can students move back into the residence halls?" For next Fall, residence halls open on Sunday, August 26, 2018. Unlike the freshman year, students may move-in at any time beginning August 26 with classes beginning on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.
For 2018-19 academic year dates, visit www.nyu.edu/studentlink. For our students who will be at one of our Global Academic Centers, a schedule of dates is available here and then by clicking on the respective location.
