Dear NYU Parents and Families --

I hope your family is well and safe during this uncertain time. As you may have noticed, the March Newsletter was replaced with more important updates from University Leadership to help you stay informed. Although we will continue to provide updates from the University, I also wanted you to be aware that University services continue to be available to your student as we move into the final weeks of this unprecedented semester. NYU staff are teleworking from home and available to answer calls and emails. This edition includes updates on on graduation, student health, career development, remote learning, tutoring, global services, and a big welcome to our most selective class - the Class of 2024!

-- David Vogelsang, Parent Helpline

On-Going Communications and Resources

Information and updates are constantly changing.  We hope your student has been a good resource of information for you, as well as the many communications sent through this listserve. You may find both current and past messages and resources related to COVID-19 and its impact on the university community at www.nyu.edu/coronavirus.

Graduation

NYU's 188th All-University Commencement Exercises will be postponed to a date still to be decided, given the advice of public health officials regarding COVID-19 and our sense of obligation to safeguard our community.  We know how important this event is to both students and parents as President Hamilton mentioned in his recent email to graduating students. With that in mind, we invite you to join us in a virtual Salute to the Class of 2020 on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 11:00am (Eastern time). As a part of the celebration, your student recently received an email about ordering a complimentary cap and tassel that will be sent to them. Please remind them to respond by April 24, 2020.

NYU Responds to COVID-19

From New York to Abu Dhabi to Shanghai -- and numerous places in between -- NYU doctors, nurses, chemists, biologists, engineers, data scientists, economists, urban planners, and many others are working round the clock to provide care, produce supplies, and imagine new possibilities for keeping COVID-19 in check. We hope you will join us in acknowledging their self-less work.

Student Health Center

To assist students wherever they might be, the Student Health Center has adapted it's services to accommodate needs by phone, or Zoom.

  • Wellness Exchange: The Wellness Exchange is still your student's greatest mental health resource at NYU. Students can call the 24-hour hotline at (212) 443-9999, chat via the Wellness Exchange app anytime (iPhone or Android), make a virtual appointment, or "stop by" during our virtual drop-in hours to speak with a certified counselor.
  • Virtual Counseling and Wellness Services: Counseling Services are available virtually (via Zoom or phone) during remote learning. CWS Wellness Workshops and Group Counseling are also available via Zoom. If students need assistance or need to speak with a counselor, they can call the Wellness Exchange 24/7 hotline at (212) 443-9999. All students who need counseling services will be seen.
  • Virtual Medical Appointments: Students can now schedule a Virtual Care appointment to visit with a Student Health Center provider via Zoom. Virtual Care is appropriate for a variety of conditions. Appointments are available with Primary Care and Women's Health providers. If we determine your student's need cannot be met through Virtual Care, we will make arrangements for an in-person appointment at the SHC (for those local) or direct your student to a local provider.
  • Student Health Insurance: Please review our Student Health Insurance FAQ for answers to common questions during Coronavirus.
  • The Moses Center for Student Accessibility is continuing to provide students with a variety of services to support remote learning and accommodations, including remote drop in meetings with an Accessibility Specialist

Career Development

The Wasserman Center for Career Development is 100% committed to supporting your student through this challenging and uncertain time. Coaches are available for virtual appointments and to address career related questions or challenges. Additionally, programming has moved online to ensure a student's career education continues.

Students should utilize Handshake, the Wasserman Center's online tool that provides students with access to career resources, scheduled or 15-minute drop-in appointments with counselors, 30-minute career coaching appointments, registration for virtual events, on-campus student employment updates, and more.

Successfully Navigating Student Learning

We know that students may be facing challenges and disruptions due to the new remote academic environment, but the Office of Student Success is available to help students seeking remote learning tips, a helpful person to talk to, a morale boost and many other resources:

NYU StudentLink Center

StudentLink counselors are professionals, crossed-trained in Registrar, Financial Aid, Financial Education, Bursar, and international student services and are currently available by email or Zoom appointments. Visit the StudentLink Center for further information.

Student Affairs Offerings

NYU's Division of Student Affairs and our campus partners are committed to providing students with support services, programs, events and resources to complement their transition to remote learning in Spring 2020 and staying connected through programs, workshops, and engagement opportunities.

Global Services

For answers to crucial questions about immigration and COVID-19, visit the Global Services COVID-19 and Emergency Information resource page. The page also includes regular updated information on US government services impacted by the current situation.
