25 West 4th Street, First Floor Renovation

Overview

NYU is renovating the first floor of 25 West 4th Street to create space for the NYU Welcome Center, and will include demolition, abatement, internal renovation, and façade replacement, and repairs to the rear 1st floor roof and wall. This project is scheduled to begin in November and will continue through the summer of 2017. Internal demolition and abatement are scheduled to occur over two weeks beginning in mid-November 2016. Interior renovation, construction, and façade replacement are expected to begin in early December and continue through August 2017.

Work hours

  • Monday - Friday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Some night and weekend work may be required.
  • Neighbors will be given advance notice of any changes to the work schedule.

Current Project Update

September 15, 2017

  • Contractors are scheduled to continue installation of the new storefront the week of September 18.
  • Contractors are scheduled to complete interior work this Saturday, September 16.
  • Contractors are scheduled to continue interior construction during normal
    working hours 7:00am-6:00pm.
  • As with any active construction site, dust will be generated in the area
    immediately surrounding the work, and noise will be generated by mechanical
    equipment.

Scope of Work

  • This project consists of demolition, abatement, internal renovation, repairs to the rear wall and roof, and façade replacement.
  • Contractors will follow safe abatement protocols for the removal of all hazardous materials.
  • Construction staging and deliveries will occur on West 4th Street in front of the building.
  • Periodic use of a packer truck will be required to grind debris as it is removed.
  • A sidewalk fence may be installed on West 4th Street directly in front of the building for pedestrian safety.
  • As with any active construction site, dust will be generated in the area immediately surrounding the work and noise will be generated by mechanical equipment, such as jackhammers.
