Moving Forward: A Renewed Role for American Arts and Artists in the Global Age

Colloquium Date: January 26, 2009

To celebrate the Art and Artifacts Indemnity Act, a precedent of federal support for the arts on an international level for over three decades, we invited the leading voices in the fight for cultural awareness for a lively discussion. Participants considered how the Act can be reinvigorated and enlarged for individual/private and governmental/public diplomacy initiatives, including how it can be expanded to better support the visual and performing arts.   

A set of recommendations that grew out of the colloquium were sent to Congress for consideration. They have led to further discussion in Washington and drawn Congressional support for expansion of the Act.
