Top NYU Alumni Stories of 2022
December 15, 2022
NYU alumni came back together in 2022 for a year of celebration, reflection, and newness. Before we look ahead to 2023, take a look back at some of this year’s top stories from the NYU alumni community:
One of the most memorable events of 2022 was NYU’s Commencement ceremonies (yes, plural!) celebrating the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022. Nearly 19,000 graduates gathered on a picturesque day and evening at Yankee Stadium, events highlighted by speeches from honorary degree recipients Taylor Swift, who received a Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa and Judith Heumann, who received a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
NYU continued its commitment and work in the areas of global Inclusion, Diversity, Belonging, Equity and Accessibility (IDBEA) in 2022, including ways to support and uplift our Black-Owned Alumni Businesses as well as sharing Anti-Black Racism Resources compiled by The Office of Global Inclusion (OGI) (originally published in 2020) that include articles, videos, podcasts, books, and guides about histories of racism and oppression primarily in the United States.
NYU’s Silver School of Social Work, College of Arts and Science, School of Global Public Health, School of Law, and Gallatin School of Individualized Study all announced new Deans in 2022. Alumni were excited to welcome these new leaders to the university community and had the opportunity to meet many of them during our return to in-person Alumni & Parents Weekend.
Michael A. Lindsey, Dean of NYU’s Silver School of Social Work
Wendy Suzuki, Seryl Kushner Dean of NYU’s College of Arts & Science
Debra Furr-Holden, Dean of NYU's School of Global Public Health
Troy McKenzie, Dean of NYU School of Law
Victoria Rosner, Dean of NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study
And finally, in a story perfect for warming your heart on a chilly winter day, NYU Violet Sweethearts shared their love stories with us for Valentine’s Day. From reignited crushes to college sweethearts, these stories continue to brighten us throughout 2022.
We’d be remiss not to also mention these favorite places to find new stories: Alumni Profiles and the newly revamped Class Notes and Video Gallery. Thank you to our 600,000+ alumni around the globe for a 2022 filled with #VioletPride. We can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for the NYU alumni community.
