NYU Alumni & Friends Connect

December 15, 2021

From EGOT award sweeps to alumni movers and shakers (and climbers!), #ICYMI, take a look back at this year's top stories from the NYU alumni community:

NYU alumni from ten schools were honored in 11 of the 20 categories on the 2021 Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list, paving the way for the 2022 list, which featured alumni in 12 categories, plus the Hall of Fame, for good measure.

Awards season wouldn’t be complete without rolling out the Violet carpet for the alumni bringing pride to the screen and stage. Among this year’s top stories were the NYU Alumni 2021 Emmy Award Honorees, NYU Alumni 2021 Grammy Award Honorees, NYU Alumni 2021 Academy Award Honorees, and NYU Alumni 2021 Golden Globe Honorees.

2021 also saw the launch of our Alumni-Owned Business Directory, allowing alumni to browse a robust (and growing) list of NYU alumni-owned businesses spanning more than 20 categories from art to fashion to retail and beyond—plus, get access to special discounts just for fellow Violets! The Spotlight On: Food and Beverage was a particular (and delicious) favorite.

If you’re looking for some new Violet voices to fill your earbuds, Listen Up: Check Out These Podcasts by and for NYU Alumni, the latest in our round up of podcasts by and for the NYU community was a hit (plus check out these former favorites here and here.)

And there would be no NYU alumni community without the innovative, impressive, and inspiring individuals who graduated from NYU. We were lucky enough to share a few of their stories this year, including: Vanessa O’Brien (SPS ‘91, STERN ‘97), the first woman to reach Earth’s highest and deepest places on Earth (From Turning Point to Highest Point); entrepreneur Kyle Bergman (STERN ‘19), founder of pandemic-era pleasures Sweat from Home and Swoveralls; and Madeline Park (CAS ’15, DEN ’18), a dentist and food blogger using her platform to support New York City’s Asian women, LGBTQ+, and elderly residents.

Thank you to our 600,000+ alumni around the globe for a 2021 filled with #VioletPride. We can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store for the #NYUAlumni community.
