Phil has been in FAS since 1995, having previously held assistant professor appointments at Brandeis and at Harvard. He has a B.A. from the University of Michigan, and from Cornell University, an M.A., MFA, and Ph.D. We are very grateful to Anna Harvey, Professor of Politics, who has served GSAS as interim dean with great energy and dedication since July 2015. Among Anna’s accomplishments, she took steps to increase the presence of underrepresented students in GSAS programs and nurture them in their studies, identify new programs and increase funds for doctoral and master’s financial aid, and develop robust cocurricular and community building programs for doctoral students.

We owe our thanks to the Search Committee—led by David Stasavage, Professor of Politics—for their fine work. (Committee members are listed below.) In spite of their heavy schedules of professional responsibilities, they took up this important task with dedication and brought us a wonderful candidate, and we thank them.

Finally, please join us in congratulating Phil Harper on his appointment and wish him well in his new responsibilities in GSAS.
