Visiting students must follow the policies set forth by NYU University Programs and NYU. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with policies and procedures and are encouraged to contact their academic advisors with any questions at up.advising@nyu.edu or 212-998-2272.

Academic Dates & Deadlines

All students at NYU are held to the academic, registration, and refund dates and deadlines set by the NYU Registrar and Bursar offices. Academic and registration dates for each term are listed in the University’s academic calendar. Refund deadlines are posted on the NYU Bursar website.

Late Registration

Students who wish to add a course to their schedule after the term add/drop deadline must do so through their academic advisors with written permission from the course instructor. Students must submit their late registration request to their advisors, including the professor’s written approval, to up.advising@nyu.edu.

Course Withdrawal

Students may drop courses online in Albert until the term add/drop deadline.  After the deadline, students must submit a class withdrawal request in Albert.  Information and instructions are available on the NYU Registrar website. As enrolled NYU students, visiting students are held to the University’s withdrawal and refund calendars and may receive a final grade of W (withdrawn) for a dropped course and no tuition refund, depending on the date of withdrawal. See Academic Dates & Deadlines above.

Term Withdrawal

Students who wish to withdraw from all of their courses and withdraw from the University in full must submit a term withdrawal request in Albert. Information and instructions are available on the NYU Registrar website. As enrolled NYU students, visiting students are held to the University’s withdrawal and refund calendars and may receive a final grade of W (withdrawn) for courses and a partial or no tuition refund, depending on the date of withdrawal. See Academic Dates & Deadlines above.

Pass/Fail Grades

Visiting students are permitted to take one course per term for a pass/fail grade.  Taking a course for pass/fail means a letter grade of A-D is converted to P on academic record. Students who fail a course receive a final grade of F. Credit is awarded for students who earn a P grade, but the grade is not included in GPA.  Students should consult with their home institution to determine if a pass/fail course is eligible for transfer credit.

To request a pass/fail grade for a course, students must submit a pass/fail request form online by the term deadline.  See the Visiting Student Handbook above for deadline information. Note: You must be logged into your NYU email to access the form.

Incomplete Grades

If unforeseen circumstances prevent a student from completing a course, they may speak with their course instructor to receive a final grade of I (incomplete) and arrange to submit required course work. It is the professor’s decision whether or not an incomplete grade is granted. Students must complete all work and receive a final letter grade for the course by the end of the following term. Courses not completed by the deadline receive a final grade of F.

Academic Integrity

NYU has a strict academic integrity policy and expects and requires all students to adhere to   the highest standards of scholarship, research, and academic conduct.  Students found in violation of academic integrity will have their cases adjudicated within the school of the course in which the potential misconduct took place and in accordance with that school’s guidelines.

Withdrawal/Refund Petition

Students who wish to receive a tuition refund as an exception to the University’s refund calendar, to retroactively drop a course or withdraw from a term, or make other changes to their student record outside of University Programs and NYU policy must submit an official petition to be reviewed by a formal committee. To receive a petition form or for more information, please email up.advising@nyu.edu.
