NYU Shanghai offers January Term (J-Term) courses at the NYU Shanghai campus in Shanghai, China. These courses give students the opportunity to study away in Shanghai and experience the excitement and wonder of Shanghai, one of the most dynamic cities in Asia. January term also offers students the opportunity to fulfill major or minor requirements while at NYU’s campus in Shanghai. Students benefit from NYU Shanghai facilities, professors, and full-time academic and student life staff. Site visits to historic sites and neighborhoods arranged by NYU Shanghai enable students to explore this city beyond the campus.

Application Process

NYU Shanghai courses are open to students from any NYU campus and to visiting students from other US accredited universities.

Please visit the Shanghai January term website here for more application information.

Selection Process

Selection for any NYUSH J-Term course is based on a student’s academic record, and the strength of the application. The Office of Global Affairs at NYU Shanghai reviews the applications and selects the students.

Academic Credit

All NYUSH J-Term courses are four credits. Academic credit for these courses is treated like any other credit awarded for coursework at NYU. The NYUSH J-Term courses will be recorded on the student’s NYU transcript, and the final grades from such courses will be calculated into a student’s NYU grade point average (GPA). It is your responsibility to work with your academic advisor and major department to determine whether and how a course might count towards your degree requirements.Students from other institutions should work with their advisors at their home schools to determine how their chosen course will count towards their degree.
