Precollege Life on Campus

Precollege students can elect to live on-campus or commute to classes and activities. Either way, students have full access to campus resources and are able to participate fully in extracurricular activities, trips, and events planned throughout the summer.

Precollege students who live on campus stay together in one of the residence halls on NYU’s historic Washington Square Campus. NYU’s residential halls are co-ed, and each room or suite will have its own bathroom. Lounges are available for student study spaces and socializing, and each hall has a laundry room. Precollege students live together in rooms or suites.

Each hall floor has its own Program Assistant (PA), a NYU college student who will be students’ main resource and guide during the program. The residence hall is led by a team of professional administrators who oversee building operations, supervise the PAs, help plan events and activities offered during the summer, and serve as an important resource for students whenever they have a question or need.

Applying for Housing

The NYU Precollege application includes an option to indicate your interest in on-campus housing. If you think you may be interested in living on campus, select ‘yes’ to this option on your application. Students who indicate housing interest on their application will receive further information and instructions upon admission to the program. The deadline to submit your Precollege application if you are interested in housing is April 15.

Summer Events

Learning at NYU extends beyond the classroom! NYU Precollege students are fully immersed in life at NYU’s unique and vibrant campus community.

As a Precollege student, you can take advantage of on-campus activities and events, such as karaoke, movie nights, trivia, and much more designed just for our high school students. These activities are a fun and casual way to connect with students outside of the classroom, explore campus resources, learn new skills, and just have fun.

NYU Precollege students also have access to a busy calendar of chaperoned trips to Broadway, Yankee Stadium, The Met and other New York City attractions to help you explore NYC as only NYU students can.

Leaving Campus

NYU does not have an enclosed campus. While students will be accompanied by program staff while on program-sponsored events, students can leave campus on their own during their off time if they choose. More information about the policies and rules for leaving campus is available in the NYU High School Programs Handbook. Students, parents, and guardians are encouraged to carefully review the Handbook and discuss among themselves expectations for off-campus travel and safety in the city.

Campus Cash

Students can add funds to their NYUCard as Campus Cash and use their NYUCard like a debit card for purchases on campus. Students use Campus Cash to pay for laundry in the residential hall, textbooks and supplies at the Bookstore, and food and drink at campus dining locations.
