Welcome to NYU Florence! We’re delighted that you’ll be spending your first year with us and can’t wait to greet you in Florence. In the meantime, this page will guide you through everything you need to get ready for your term abroad.
Please note that the Italian government requires that your passport be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned return from study abroad. The government retains the right to deny you entry into Italy if your passport is not valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned return (through December 2020), so make sure to renew it now.
US Students who need to renew or get a new passport should have it expedited. To review procedures for having a passport expedited, they should refer to this government website. They fall under the category of needing a passport for a foreign visa within 4 weeks. If necessary, Liberal Studies can produce a letter to assist in expediting the visa. To secure it, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students who have already submitted their passport--without having already asked for it to be expedited--can still request expedited processing by contacting a customer service center.
NYU does not have the ability to change visa requirements, nor does it help if we call consulates or embassies on your behalf. Though we're happy to help you in whatever way we can, the decision to issue you a visa rests solely with the consulate or embassy. Below you'll find instructions for getting your visa, along with sample visa applications and supporting materials. Bear in mind that information is tailored for US students and that incoming students are best served by getting information from their local Italian consulate.
Consulates and Applications
Each consulate has specific regulations and requirements, so your very first step is to determine which consulate jurisdiction you fall under.
Be sure to check and recheck the consulate requirements before your appointment or submitting materials, as all requirements are subject to change without notification.
Please submit information via the Enrollment Portal by May 10th.
Please update your contact information in NYUHome to ensure that all materials get to you promptly.
NYUHome is an excellent resource which provides you with an NYU email address, information on your bursar account and access to NYU classes where you'll be able to access a bunch of information we've put together on Florence for you to read before you leave. Once you have access to NYUHome, please make sure to update your addresses and phone numbers in our system—that ensures that we're able to contact you with important information, including essential mailings as we'll use the contact information you provide there. You can find instructions on how to start using NYUHome's basic functions here.
All students are required to submit a combination of paper and online forms prior to entry to NYU for the first year. These forms are used to collect needed information for your upcoming year or to ensure that you are compliant with university or government deadlines and regulations.
