COVID-19 and Local Protocols
While many countries are easing restictions for travelers it is important for members of the NYU community to follow guidance from NYU as well as local health officials to continue to keep yourself and those around you safe. If you are planning to travel to any of NYU's locations, please review this information which will be revised regularly. Last update 4/28/22
- NYU's requirements for maintaining safety within the University community might be more strict than local requirements and vice versa. In such situations, NYU leans toward the more strict guideline.
- Restrictions will continue to change. Policies/regulations/restrictions may continue to ease or they may become more strict. Be prepared for changes.
All members of the NYU community—students, faculty, employees, vendors, affiliates, and visitors—are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, to upload proof of their vaccination to NYU's portal and to have that vaccination documentation accepted by NYU. NYU now also requires all members of the NYU community to receive a COVID-19 booster vaccination as soon as they are eligible and upload proof of the vaccination.
In setting our vaccination requirement, NYU is committed to protecting the health and safety of our community and ensuring the University is in compliance with governmental requirements.

For an overview of current measures in place, please refer to these links:
The federal government will cover antigen testing at commercial sites until the end of May. After this, it is expected that many testing sites will close. Students in Berlin can receive a free antigen test at testing facilities throughout the city free of charge until the end of May. Starting in June, antigen testing will likely cost 15 Euro per test. The cost for a PCR test will be between 50 and 80 Euro. There is a testing site in the same building as the NYU Berlin Academic Center and a 5-minute walk from the NYU Berlin Student Residence.

Close contacts are no longer automatically required to quarantine, regardless of their vaccination status. However, the health authorities may prescribe quarantine in some cases, e.g., if the contact person is exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms.
An NYU Berlin campus community member must notify the NYU Berlin administration about a confirmed infection; the NYU Berlin administration must notify the local health authorities about all outbreaks in the campus community. STEP 1: Take an official Covid-19 test in a pharmacy to receive an official certificate from the government. (Tests are widely available and cost 25-35 EUR. Autotests are also available for purchase in pharmacies and cost around 4 EUR/per test. Autotests are not considered official tests and can't be used as proof of recovery from Covid or for travel purposes).
STEP 2: Self-isolate for a minimum of 5 days from the date of first symptoms or positive PCR/ antigen test.
STEP 3: If on day 5 you take another test and the test is negative, and you did not have any symptoms for the last 48 hrs, you may end your isolation. If you test positive, you must continue to self-isolate for 7 days. If you have no symptoms after 7 days, you may end isolation. No need to test again.
For individuals who are in close contact with a person who tests positive:
STEP 1: No need to isolate but you must follow strict sanitary measures (wear a mask, keep social distancing) and take antigenic or PCR test 2 days after the exposure.
STEP 2: If the test is positive, follow the isolation guidelines above.
