The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) provides scholarships for students 1) to study or conduct research; 2) to study in Germany during their senior year; 3) to improve existing German language skills or to attend university courses in German; 4) and to do an internship in the fields of science and engineering in Germany.
- The Study Scholarship is only offered for a full master's degree program at a German university or for study at a German university as part of a postgraduate or Master's degree program completed in the home country. Research Grants are awarded to candidates who have completed a Master's degree/Diplom, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research, or PostDocs, or to individuals wishing to earn a doctoral degree in Germany. NYU's internal deadline is October 12th for both of these applications.
- The Undergraduate Scholarship which provides support for a four-to-ten-month period in Germany. This scholarship is available to seniors. German language competency is not mandatory The application deadline for this scholarship is January 31, 2017.
- The University Summer Course Grant enables students to attend courses mainly on German language, culture, politics and economics. The deadline is December 1. Applicants must have attained at least sophomore standing and they must demonstrate German language proficiency. The Intensive Language Course Grant provides support to students who wish to improve their German language skills. Applicants must have at least three semesters of college German. The application deadline is December 1, 2016.
- The Study and Internship Program (SIP) provides a full-year of studying and interning in one of Germany’s leading universities of applied sciences. Short-term opportunities are available through the Study Program (SP) and the Internship Program. The RISE (Research Internship in Science and Engineering) is a summer internship program for students in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering to work with research groups at universities and research institutions across Germany. Submission Instructions for Study and Research
Applicants must register with the Online Application Portal prior to completing an application. Once registered, applicants will log onto the Application Portal where they download an electronic application form and complete it. Applicants should have all the additional necessary documents ready when they upload their completed application form. However, the letter of recommendation will not be uploaded, and must be submitted as a hard copy.
The Online Application Portal allows applicants to check the status of their application. Once an application has been accepted, a notification and a summary of the application in PDF format will be sent to the portal. Print the application summary as soon as it is received.
The NYU internal deadline for submission is Thursday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m. Please bring three copies of your application summary (all uploaded application materials) along with the original letter of recommendation in sealed a envelope to the GSAS Office of Academic and Student Affairs at 6 Washington Square North, 2nd Floor.
